Private Practice Character Recast!

For those of who tuned into the pilot episode of Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice, there has been a casting change as the show goes into production.

TV Guide has learned that Kate Walsh’s best friend in “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff “Private Practice” won’t be played by Merrin Dungey (”Alias”), who starred in the role on the recent two-hour special that introduced the new cast.

The part has been recast with Audra McDonald (pictured), a four-time Tony winner. She will take on the role of Dr. Naomi Bennet, Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery’s confidante.

There are not expected to be any further cast changes coming before the show goes into production next month.

I’m actually really glad about this because as I watched the pilot (which underwhelmed me, to be honest) I kept thinking to myself how boring the actress was that played Naomi. It was like watching paint dry. Hopefully this woman has more chemistry with Taye and Kate than the last one.
