Katharine McPhee To Be Cast As Wonder Woman?

Ever since word got out that Steven Spielberg has expressed interest in meeting with American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, speculation has ensued as to what project he wants her to be a part of.
Today rumors accrued that Katharine is in talks to star in the movie version of Wonder Woman–a result of a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer.
No word from representation of any of the involved parties just yet.
Currently, a 2007 release of Wonder Woman is listed on IMDB.com, but under the direction of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly director and writer Joss Whedon, but this could be an “Alexander” situation, where multiple filmmakers are making essentially the same film. Or, Katharine could be in the running for Joss‘ film, and information simply got crossed because of the call Kat received from Spielberg.

On idolforums in the Kat section it has been reported that Kat is going on tour with Bocelli for 3 dates in June and she just recorded Over the Rainbow for her upsoming album under the direction of David Foster. She’s totally pulling a Clay Aiken!
I hope so, J!
[...] Looks like Katharine’s got a busy year ahead of her, considering the fact that she’s got her album to develop and record, two tours to embark on, loads of press, a call from Steven < a href=”http://breathoffreshink.com/katharine-mcphee-gets-call-from-spielberg/”>Spielberg, and a rumored casting in Joss Whedon’s “Wonder Woman.” [...]
Go Kat!!!! I think she’d be good as Wonder Woman.
“Go Kat!!!! I think she’d be good as Wonder Woman.”
me too. How awesome that would be. I’d stand in line overnight to see that movie…more than once.
If someone, for that mattrer, anyone wants to cast Kathryn McPhee in the lead role of “Wonder Woman” then more power to her! Take their $$ and head to the bank!
At the same time, my only question is what is her acting background?
Based on my research it’s nonexistent and, HONESTLY, would you really expect Spielberg or Bruckheimer to cast a novice actress with no film credits in a movie that’s probably going to costs more than $ 150 million to make because of all the special effects.
She does have acting experience. She went to the Boston Consv. for musical theatre, she was nominated for an L.A. Ovation award for her performance in “Annie Get Your Gun.” She was also cast in a pilot series for MTV playing a high school dropout living under the shadow of her more successful older sister.
to JAY-
Kat actually does have some acting experience. She was nominated for an Ovation award for her role as Annie Oakley in an LA stage production of Annie Get Your Gun. I read on TV Guide’s website that Kat was cast in a pilot for MTV called You Are Here that ultimately, didn’t make the cut. One source (perhaps a producer for the show) said that Kat was a very “convincing” actress. One reason to believe Kat might be in the running for the title role is that Lynda Carter herself was interviewed by one of the entertainment news shows (I think Access Hollywood) and said how much Kat reminded her of a young version of herself and how many others had commented the very same thing to her.
I do agree with you that the odds of a Spielberg/Bruckheimer casting an unknown in a $150 million dollar movie are slim, but then again. the guy who is going to be playing Superman in the new movie, Brandon Routh, is an unknown. Perhaps they are thinking that the fact that it’s “Wonder Woman” is enough of a selling point that they don’t need a mega star to play the lead.
Also, if the rumors are true, then Kat’s appearance on American Idol certainly doesn’t hurt…she’s gained a pretty significant fan-following from being on the show.
I guess we’ll just have to wait this one out to figure out what the deal is….
Considering that Warner Brothers owns DC Comics and thus the rights to Wonder Woman, I don’t think that it would be legally possible for Spielberg to be working on another, completely different Wonder Woman film.
Rumor says that Joss Whedon wants to meet with her, possibly for Wonder Woman. Spielberg has the movie rights to “Wicked”, the successful Broadway show about the witches pre-Oz. Maybe she has two opportunities here.
why can’t Katherine crawl back in the hole she came out of…she probably would be a better actress than singer…she can’t sing in tune and i am sorry but that is the basis for singing!! it is like being a runner and not being able to walk in a straight line…i hope she can act better than she attempts to sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Bitter are we? Or perhaps jealous? Either way, you are obviously wrong. Nobody gets that much acclaim from such pronounced big wigs in the music industry unless they have a spectacular voice. Get over yourself.
Wonder Woman movie would cost too much to but in a person such as Katherine McPhee.
They would need a big name to push it through.
Doesn’t matter what Linda Carter’s thoughts are either since she was on the TV version.
McPhee has said in an interview on some website supposedly that she met with Spielberg and talked. It was just a get to know thing she said.
Spielberg is really into AI and he also left a message for Mandisa that she had should be on film.
I don’t call the acting experience that has been mentioned here as “real” experience when you know how things are out there trying to get parts. She would be considered inexperienced and the only thing going for her is she had exposure on AI.
My brother lived out there in LA area for years working on his acting and trying to get some jobs. He got a few but his resume on acting outshines her by a bunch and it was still hard.
The thing that is going for her is her looks and her age..that is about it. She will do good on stage sometime though.
Right…
Ever heard of Brandon Routh?
Tobey Maguire?
Add Eric Bana to that.
She’s very ugly and can’t sing so how is she gonna be able to act? She didn’t even win American Idol!!!! She should not be cast as Wonder Woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
