Emmy winner and Will & Grace star Eric McCormack has been cast in Truth In Advertising, a drama on TNT.

“Truth” centers on a powerful agency in contemporary Chicago. McCormack will play Mason McGuire, an exec who is better at the corporate side of the biz but is unexpectedly promoted to creative director.

The show aims to create “commercials-within-the-show” that would fit with the narrative but also offer opportunities for a new kind of product placement

McCormack is apparently also slated to star in A&E’s miniseries remake of The Andromeda Strain.

I feel sorry for the stars of Will & Grace. Everyone but Debra Messing’s going to fade into oblivion and end up ODing during an episode of the Surreal Life 10 years from now. Oh how the mighty fall.

The 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning by previous SAG Award winners Sandra Oh and Elijah Wood. There were a few surprises that snuck in as well as some major snubs.

The Brad Pitt/Cate Blanchett film Babel garnered the most nominations out of all the motion pictures, with three nods–one being for Best Ensemble.

HBO drama The Sopranos dominated the television categories with three nominations, more than any other series–including a Best Ensemble nod, as well as nods for both lead actors, Edie Falco and James Gandolfini.

There was a tie in the Female Actor In A Comedy Series category, so there are 6 nominees there instead of the normal five.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 43rd Annual Life Achievement Award

I’m extremely disappointed that yet again, Marcia Cross has been snubbed, but at the same time–the series has not really focused on her character this year, and seeing as how there was a tie in that category, it seems it was particularly competitive.

Also snubbed this year, is Golden Globe nominee Sacha Baron Cohen, who was hilarious in Borat. It may be that because the voting pool here is nothing but actors, that they simply just didn’t take him seriously enough. I mean, just look at the Male Actor In A Leading Role category. There are NO comedic performances.

You guys know how much I love Baby Jane–here’s some divalicious pictures from Christina’s Back to Backs European tour.

These are from the opening number, her top 10 hit Ain’t No Other Man. I seriously saw some of these pictures and almost had an orgasm. So I think a more appropriate term for my reaction would be “gay-gasm”.

There’s an even better one where she had just thrown the scarf and it’s directly behind her–with her hand still up in the air.

If I can find a bigger version of that picture I’ll definitely add it.

Even though one of the best sitcoms to be on TV ever, Will & Grace, went down the tubes toward the end of the series, it’s still one of my favorite shows of all time. I have all first 5 seasons on DVD and will promptly buy the sixth once it comes out.

The creators of the show Max Mutchnick and David Kohan (who by the way are best friends) are teaming with CBS to create a new sitcom based around their friendship. Kohan is straight, and Mutchnick is gay. They both have been working together for years–and this new project will be a buddy comedy about a quartet of characters: a gay writer, a straight writer, and their hot assistants.

Good to see two of my favorite sitcom writers bring some more gay main characters back to television. With the cancellation of Will & Grace, Queer As Folk, and Six Feet Under, there’s a lack of gay characters on mainstream TV.

What in the world has happened to Heath Ledger? Heath, baby…I loved you in Brokeback Mountain. You and Anne Hathaway made the movie for me. I thought if they weren’t going to give it to Phillip Seymour Hoffman the Oscar should’ve gone to you. But honestly, my dear…take a bath, buy some shampoo/hair gel, and wash your face before you leave your Brooklyn home.

These pictures are truly frightening. Meanwhile…no one is sure if Heath and his baby mama Michelle Williams have actually tied the knot or not. They were allegedly spotted getting a marriage license recently so the assumption was that they were, but their rep just commented that they are not married, and will not be getting married. Hm. Whatev.

Even though Sunday night's Emmy telecast proved to be a snorefest minus some very deserved wins, the fashion was as always, something to talk about.  There were a few hits, and of course quite a few misses.  Okay…a lot of misses. 

Worst Dressed

  Dear Jesus.  This debacle is almost as bad Reese Witherspoon's hopeless Oscar dress.  One of those ghosts should have whispered to Jennifer Love Hewitt that less is more.  Not even Cher would look twice at this shit.   This looks like something that at one point was actually a decent dress, and then they turned it over to a new employee at Michaels Arts and Crafts.  The hair's pretty decent though–kind of old-school Hollywood.  Reminds me of Katharine McPhee's Big Sexy campaign.

 

 Mariska, girl, I love you.  And I'm so glad you finally won that Emmy you've for so long deserved–even more glad you look so stunning after just giving birth.  But this dress looks like a pack of rosebushes attacked you and slit your dress right up the middle.  I know vertical lines are slimming, but next time go for stripes. 

 

 

What's with all these talented women pulling off fashion no-nos this year (mind you, I'm not referring to Hewitt)?  Kyra Sedgwick (or as some know her, Mrs. Kevin Bacon) was the only other woman worthy of taking that Emmy trophy for Lead Actress in a Drama if it weren't Hargitay, but this sack of curtains savagely mauled with garden shears probably made the academy go back and change the name in that envelope.  The dress wouldn't have been so bad were it not for that huge circular thing right under her left hip.  It looks like a prop from "The Big Comfy Couch".

 

 

What..the hell?  I could swear I've seen that print on one of my aunt's walls.  It doesn't surprise me that loopy Paula Abdul would show up to the Emmys in true drunken and heavily medicated fashion with a horrid excuse for a gown, but lord woman, being 50 doesn't mean you have to dress like Betty White's bed sheets.

 

 

Let's not get started on how disgusting it is that Sandra Oh was passed over for the snoozer Blythe Danner.  But considering the "Grey's Anatomy" star's choice of outfit, I'm inclined to forgive.  The bottom half of the dress is actually half way decent–it's very haute couture.  But the top half is what does it in–it turns into some kind of Hallmark frill-fest.  And of course Sandra has to make it even worse with the overdone jewelry she bought from the street vendors in the East Village.  Side note: People who have big foreheads should not wear their hair back.  Just ask Toni Collette–she knows why nobody went to see "In Her Shoes".

 

 

Once again, the forehead rule applies.  Tyra herself has even said she's got a "fivehead", yet she insists on wearing the hair up and back.  I think I might actually like this dress if it was a solid color like Sandra Oh's or Kyra Sedgwick's, but this weird mosh posh of lavendar, black and see-through just isn't doing it for me.  I know, I know–it's not really see through–it's that skin-colored crap.  But either way, it looks just as tacky (see Britney Spears–2000 VMAs). 

 

 MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo probably looked the worst out of every single woman on the red carpet.  I know your salary isn't that great working at TRL, but can't new boyfriend Nick Lachey lend you some change so you can have a decent Emmy gown?  Wait..why are you at the Emmys anyway?  Whatever the reason, it looks like some Bollywood dress meets 2nd grade art project gone very, very bad.

 

 

What is with the Grey's Anatomy women and horrid fashion?  You're already second to Desperate Housewives in ratings and award wins, why must you let them show you up on the red carpet too?  Maybe if this were a different material it could be a decent dress but this dress, those eyebrows, the Kellie Pickler hair–it just ain't working Ellen.  The material's too T.J. Maxx, and the design's too Lady of the Lake.

Best Dressed

Does Evangeline Lilly ever look bad on the red carpet?  I swear, she's a goddess.  Very classic, simple, elegant.  Love it.  She looks great in blues, greens, and purples.

 

 

Not really feeling the hair do on Heidi Klum, but the dress is grade A fashion–even if it does look like it came off the maternity rack.

 

 

Her show didn't win anything, but Jamie Lynn Sigler still looked nice, flowy, and delicate.  Kind of looks like something you could buy at J.C. Penney, but it's beautiful nonetheless.

 

 

Damn, at least somebody's representing from Grey's Anatomy.  Ms. Katherine Heigl looked absolutely stunning in her cream-colored, sparkly gown.  This is how sparkles should be done, Ms. Hewitt!  Katharine looked like a 40s bombshell on the red carpet with her smoky eyeliner and classy finger wave.  Kudos to Izzie Stevens.

I have to give it to two-time Emmy winner Julia Louis Dreyfuss.  Even though I'm not a big fan of hers, of Seinfeld, or of her new show The New Adventures of Old Christine, I must admit she had the best dress on the red carpet this Sunday.  It was simple, crisp, chic, and the black trim around the bust was brilliant!  I need to find out who made that dress so I can worship them forever.

Nominee Jaime Pressley was an eye-catcher with this exquisite deep purple gown that almost looks as if it was chiseled by Jesus to fit her body.  Everything about it is fabulous, the train at the bottom, the cute little design above the knees, the print, the color–just everything.  Love it, love it, love it.

Even though it's a little ridiculous that Debra Messing was nominated yet again this year for Will & Grace, a show that went down the toilet years ago and has been rotting there ever since, I will forgive her shutting out the brilliant Marcia Cross for wearing this dress.  The odd thing is that I feel like I would hate it were it on anyone else, but something about the way it hangs on her, the color of the dress perfectly matching with her gorgeous complexion, and of course her beautiful face and fiery red hair to top it all off.  Both of Grace's gays (Will and Jack) would approve.  Karen's a tough one to please though.

We of course can't leave out the men.  Even though is wife's dress makes me both go blind and wanna puke, nominee Denis Leary looked ravishing in his sleek blacknsuit with the perfect red tie to finish off the look.  And of course someone as cool as Denis couldn't go without the shades.

-sigh- Jeremy Piven.  Could this man get any more dreamy?  I was ecstatic that he was finally given the Emmy win that he deserved for playing Ari Gold on HBO's Entourage but I couldn't forget how great he looked.  He was by far the most fashionable man on the Emmy red carpet.  Of course…he could wear a trash bag and a handful of extension cords and still be the hottest thing in Tinseltown.

Thoughts: Okay, I love Megan as much as the next homo. But seriously…she’s won enough awards. This should’ve gone to Elizabeth Perkins or at least Jaime Pressly. Way to go Emmys. You punked out and gave it to Megan just because it’s Will & Grace’s last year. Poo-poo on you.

Thoughts: Oh. My. God. Thank you Emmy voters, you finally got it right. Jeremy Piven has deserved to win this award since the very second Entourage premiered and I’m so glad he got his due. If anyone deserved to win tonight it’s Jeremy.

Thoughts: You can’t ever go wrong with Jon Stewart. This man is just pure brilliance. I know a lot of people were expecting Dave to win because he submitted the Oprah episode, but Jon is the shit.

I cannot even begin to describe the horror I’m experiencing at the moment. First of all, Lauren Graham and Kristen Bell were not nominated. Second, Will & Grace, a series that went down the toilet a while ago and has been there ever since–somehow leads the comedies with 10 nominations.

None of the Desperate Housewives were nominated except the just okay Alfre Woodard (whose storyline ruined season 2 by the way) including the very worthy Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria. Jason Lee did not get nominated for breakout comedy hit “My Name Is Earl“, nor did the series get a nod. Where is Golden Globe winner Mary Louise Parker? I’m disgusted. Where’s last year’s winner Patricia Arquette?

Michael C. Hall did not get nominated for Six Feet Under, though I’m willing to forgive that since his co-star Peter Krause did. There is some good news however. House, Grey’s Anatomy, Frances Conroy, and Kyra Sedgwick did all get nominated. Not to mention–finally after years of snubs, Law & Order: SVU’s Chris Meloni garnered a well-deserved nomination.

Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan was close to scoring one of the lead roles in hit sitcom Will & Grace, but ended up narrowly missing out to Debra Messing.

The show’s creator, Max Mutchnick, claims the actress auditioned for the role of the kooky interior designer and succeeded in impressing producers. Referring to her role in Desperate Housewives, Mutchnick quips, “Nicollette came in - she did a great job, but the performance was just a little…desperate.”

Executives liked what they saw and decided to bring Sheridan back for a guest-starring role. The actress appeared on the sitcom in 2003, as a sexy doctor who comes on to Grace’s boyfriend Leo, played by Harry Connick Jr.

For more than 100 years, mainstream Hollywood movies largely shunned gay subjects, which were either disregarded, closeted or dealt with by independent filmmakers.

But in 2005, “Brokeback Mountain,” the story of two cowboys in love, broke big at box offices and earned eight Oscar nominations, including best film. It was a hit and Hollywood loves a hit.

“Gay people are now living more honest and open lives and that leads to others wanting to know more about our lives,” said Neil Giuliano, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. “People want this product and we can provide it in a compelling and powerful way that can be profitable.”

Historians and experts divide Hollywood’s portrayal of gay life into three periods: years before the early 1930s “production code;” self-censorship under the code until the late 1960s; and the years since then as gays and lesbians have been slowly accepted into mainstream culture.

The production code, also known as the Hays Code, was devised by a forerunner of today’s Motion Picture Association of America and was strictly enforced by Hollywood’s major studios starting around 1934.

It set out general guidelines specifying that no film would lower moral standards of an audience member and included warnings against nudity and positive portrayals of crime and illicit sex.

Before the code, historians said movies showed no depictions of gays or lesbians because they largely kept to themselves and were ignored by mainstream society. As a result, the movies also set them aside, reflecting the culture of the day.

“It was not so much keeping a secret. It was more like, ‘How could you write about something that wasn’t being written about?”‘ said William Mann, author of “Behind the Screen: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood 1910-1969.”

TO GAY, OR NOT TO GAY

Although the production code did not allow portrayals of gay life, some male roles were often built around effeminate personality traits. By association, the characters were deemed homosexual, although such a distinction was never talked about, said Jonathan Kuntz of the film and television school at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Some actors such as Franklin Pangborn enjoyed careers playing effeminate men and closeted homosexuals like Rock Hudson could live in privacy and still take heterosexual roles.

“Sexuality is overtly talked about now but wasn’t really in those days,” said Robert Osborne, author of “75 Years of Oscar: The Official History of the Academy Awards.”

The sexual revolution of late 1960s brought an end to the production code, and in 1969 “Midnight Cowboy” the relationship between Joe Buck (Jon Voight) and Enrico “Ratso” Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman) was widely considered a love affair, although the two never had sex on screen, as do the cowhands of “Brokeback.”

“Midnight Cowboy” became a box-office hit and won the best film Oscar, but what followed were film flops such as 1982’s “Making Love,” which made “gay film” sound like “money loser” to mainstream Hollywood. As a result, homosexual stories were fodder for independent filmmakers and art-house cinemas.

In 1993, “Philadelphia” starred Tom Hanks as a gay man, won Oscars and earned $206 million worldwide, but it was largely seen as an AIDS movie, not a gay film.

In the late 1990s, gay television shows such as “Will & Grace” and TV stars like Ellen DeGeneres helped mainstream Hollywood get to a point where it could promote a film such as “Brokeback,” the experts said. Now, they expect the major studios to be more accepting of gay stories and screenplays.

“I don’t know if we’re going to see any $200 million movies built around a gay character but certainly this will spark other films,” Kuntz said.

Producers for Will & Grace are desperate to convince Brokeback Mountain actors Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal to appear on the hit TV show and re-enact their on-screen kiss.

The actors, who played gay cowboys in the Oscar-nominated film, would also play gay cowboys on the show.

Sources tell American magazine In Touch the actors are interested, but will only agree to appear after the Oscar ceremony, because they don’t want to hurt the film’s chances of winning any awards.

Britney Spears will guest star on an episode of “Will & Grace,” NBC announced Tuesday.

The pop star will appear as a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes‘ character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show, on the April 13 episode, the network said.

Jack’s fictional network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears contributing a cooking segment called “Cruci-fixin’s.”

As a young girl, the 24-year-old Spears was a regular on “The Mickey Mouse Club.” After becoming a pop singer, she starred in the critically panned 2002 film “Crossroads.”

Last September, Spears gave birth to her first child, son Sean Preston, with husband Kevin Federline.

“Will & Grace,” which also stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally, is in its eighth and final season. It airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. (EST).
