Ellen Responsible For Oprah’s Worst Hate Mail

Posted under Ellen DeGeneres, Gay, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Wednesday 24 October 2007 at 10:21 pm

Oprah had a show today about how homosexuality affected people across the globe, one of which was former NBA player John Amaechi who mentioned a woman in New York City told him before he came out she didn’t know there were gay black people.

At the end of the show while talking to Rachel Dowd, Deputy Editor of The Advocate, Oprah opens up about the worst hate mail she’s ever received in the history of her career.

Oprah: You know, yeah, John and I were just saying during the commercial break it’s so easy to see when you look at other countries–there was–you can go to Oprah.com there was a piece that I don’t have time to run here today that was going to run but we’re live, on the Cairo 52 where 52 men were arrested in Cairo and held in prison for over a year. But when you see other countries doing that you think “Oh, isn’t that ridiculous, isn’t that awful?”. And yet, 2003 is when we decriminalized homosexuality here.

Rachel: Right. I do think we’re catching up. I think there’s signs. Ellen DeGeneres hosting the Oscars. It seems a little cheeky but that opened it up to a lot of people.

Oprah: That’s pretty amazing because I remember when I did–Ellen Degeneres–you know who she is? (To John)

John: Oh yes.

Oprah: Okay, Ellen DeGeneres. So when Ellen DeGeneres was doing her show and she came out on her show and I played the psychologist that she came out to–

[Audience Applauds]
[Oprah motions for them to stop]
[They do]

Oprah: So when I played the psychologist I got the worst hate mail in the history of my career for playing the psychologist that she came out to. And then years later, she gets to host the Oscars. That is progress.

I wish Oprah’s shows were more provocative like they were back in the day. Remember when she had some redneck racist guy on and everybody in the audience was going crazy like it was one of them episodes of Maury where some pre-teen skank with a tramp stamp walks out with her stank coochie showin’?

Get Tim Hardaway or Ja Rule on here and hold these people accountable for the dumb shit they say. But whatev, I love the Opester.

Nate Berkus On Out Magazine

Posted under Celebrities, Oprah by Chris Evans on Tuesday 10 July 2007 at 10:22 pm

Nate Berkus, Oprah’s interior design guru, has to be the cutest gay man that’s ever lived. That is all.

Here’s a quote from the article, where he talks about his partner Fernando who he lost in the Asian Tsunami.

“After the show, I got a tremendous amount of letters and e-mails from kids across the country who were coming out. They said that watching the way my relationship with Fernando was presented on the show gave them the courage to say to their friends and parents, ‘You know what, I’m gay just like him and I want to have what he had.’ The most touching correspondence I received came from an 18-year-old who said, ‘I’d never seen a gay couple’s love story presented like that on TV before. Now that I’ve seen it, I realize I’d be wasting a lot of time if I didn’t get out there and try to find it for myself.’ It was amazing, and it makes me really proud, because somebody somewhere was watching the show and it changed how they viewed themselves and their own opportunities to live in a successful gay relationship…I wasn’t concerned about presenting my relationship with Fernando to the world. I wanted people to know about our life and what I lost.”

Apparently T.R. Knight is getting some pretty interesting text messages. Or not.

As much as I hate the HasselbitchLaw & Order: SVU went a bit too far this time. Even though they did the same thing to Michael…and Britney…and Mel Gibson.

50 Cent Follows Ludacris And Bashes Oprah

Posted under Celebrities, Music, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey by Chris Evans on Saturday 29 April 2006 at 7:43 pm

He usually saves his beefs for other rappers; this time, 50 Cent is going after Oprah Winfrey.

In an interview with The Associated Press, he complained that Winfrey rarely invites rappers on her talk show. “I think she caters to older white women.”

Oprah’s audience is my audience’s parents,” the 29-year-old said. “So, I could care less about Oprah or her show.”

He’s not alone in his resentment toward the media magnate.

Rapper-actor Ludacris, a.k.a. Chris Bridges, said in the May issue of GQ magazine that Winfrey was “unfair” during a show he appeared on in October with co-stars from “Crash.”

“She edited out a lot of my comments while keeping her own in,” he said. “Of course, it’s her show, but we were doing a show on racial discrimination, and she gave me a hard time as a rapper, when I came on there as an actor.”

Winfrey’s representative at her production company, Harpo, said Winfrey was unavailable for comment.

But, as 50 Cent acknowledged, Winfrey’s purported disapproval of rap might enhance his street cred.

“I’m actually better off having friction with her,” he said.

Ludacris Lashes Out Against Oprah

Posted under Celebrities, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Friday 21 April 2006 at 4:43 am

Rapper Ludacris has lashed out at media mogul Oprah Winfrey for initially refusing to have him on her TV talk show and then publicly lecturing him about his rap lyrics. The hip-hop star, real name Chris Bridges, was taken aback when Winfrey took him to task about the use of the words ‘b**ches’ and ‘ho’s’ in his hits when Ludacris appeared on her show to promote acclaimed movie Crash.

Ludacris says, “She edited out a lot of my comments while keeping her own in. Of course, it’s her show, but we were doing a show on racial discrimination, and she gave me a hard time as a rapper when I came on there as a rapper. Initially, I wasn’t even invited on the show.” The rapper reveals Winfrey insisted on further lecturing him on his lyrics once the show was over. He adds, “After the taping, she pulled me into a room and we had a five-minute conversation. What I got was that by having rappers on her show, she feels like she’s empowering in them.

“It was like being at someone’s house who doesn’t really want you there.” The rapper admits he’d think twice before agreeing to return to the show: “I don’t see why (comedians) Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, who I am huge fans of, it’s OK for them to go on Oprah. “They speak the same language as I do, but they do it through comedy, so I guess that’s acceptable to her (Oprah).”

Angelina Jolie Blasts Jennifer Aniston And Oprah

Posted under Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Celebrities, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Tuesday 11 April 2006 at 12:26 pm

Angelina Jolie has reportedly accused Jennifer Aniston of using an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show last September to turn the public against her and Aniston’s former husband Brad Pitt.

Jolie’s close pal Tonya Hart is quoted in British magazine Star saying the actress was enraged by Aniston’s behaviour, claiming she was “milking” her split with Pitt. And the movie beauty even cut ties with Winfrey herself, when the talk show hostess then tried to invite her on the show.

Tonya claims Jolie said, “Oh my God, it makes me want to throw up! She shot her mouth off and Oprah took it all in. “The audience took it all in. They were all against Brad and me from that moment on.

“She wanted people to feel sorry for her that her marriage was down the pan. Brad and I couldn’t defend ourselves.” Tonya adds, “Angie told Oprah she was extremely upset with her and wanted nothing to do with the show, even though Oprah reportedly said, ‘Don’t bear a grudge against me.”

James Frey Won’t Write Book About His Lies

Posted under Books, James Frey, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Saturday 28 January 2006 at 4:19 am

Oprah and James Frey

James Frey, the disgraced author of “A Million Little Pieces,” has a hard luck story he doesn’t want to share: He will not write a book about the unraveling of his admittedly tainted million-selling memoir of addiction and recovery.

“I think writing a book about this experience would be trying to capitalize on it in some way and that’s not something I want to do at all,” Frey said in a segment on Oprah Winfrey’s syndicated talk show that was taped, but not immediately aired, after Thursday’s explosive program when Winfrey turned against the author whose book she endorsed last fall.

Frey’s comments were part of “Oprah After the Show,” a conversation featuring Frey, Winfrey and publisher Nan A. Talese to be broadcast Friday night on the Oxygen network, a cable channel Winfrey helped found.

Despite Frey’s on-air humiliation, when Winfrey berated him and the author acknowledged that key parts of the books were invented, “A Million Little Pieces” kept on selling. On Friday, it was in the top 5 on both Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com.

Meanwhile, publishers and agents agreed that tighter scrutiny was needed after Talese acknowledged what the industry knows well but perhaps not the general public: Memoirs are not fact-checked.

Despite calls from Winfrey and others to tighten standards, many doubt publishers will hire fact checkers.

“Publishing companies run on pretty tight budgets and there’s just not enough time to check every book,” said Viking associate publisher Paul Slovak. “But it is possible that somebody might look at these books with a slightly more alert eye.”
