Fresh Links: American Idol Adds Fourth Judge

Posted under American Idol, Celebrities, Gay, Movies, Music, Television by Chris Evans on Monday 25 August 2008 at 11:39 am

Songwriter Kara DioGuardi (Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, etc.) has been added as a fourth judge on American Idol. Hm, does this mean they’re inching closer to finally replacing Paula?

Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder stomped on the competition again in its second weekend, beating out the respectable opening weekend of the Anna Faris/Katharine McPhee comedy House Bunny.

Yes, I was dragged by my seven year old cousin to see Wall-E. No, I’m not proud of it. Kate Bornstein lays out the case for Wall-E actually possibly being a gay love story.

Oops…she did it again. No, not Britney. Madonna. In yet another ploy for attention Madonna rips John McCain in an onstage montage, comparing him to Hitler.

Tune into The Black List, a collection of interviews with African-American luminaries tonight at 9 PM on HBO. The program will include Secretary of State Collin Powell, actor Laurence Fishburne, author Toni Morrison, among others. Unfortunately I’m too broke to afford HBO, so I’ll wait ’til it’s on DVD.

Due to the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, the next Superman film is said to be getting rebooted so that it can emulate the dark tone of the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan films. I’m sorry, but after how horrible Superman Returns was I honestly can’t see myself shelling out another $11.15 to sit through Hot Mess #2. Get back to X-Men, Bryan Singer.

Tufts University claims they have evidence that Gaydar is in fact real. Of course it’s real. How else would Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez be able to find each other in a dark room?

Fresh Links: Obama Shows Off His Farmer’s Tan

Posted under American Idol, Celebrities, Gay, Movies, Music, Television by Chris Evans on Sunday 17 August 2008 at 1:12 am

Obama goes surfing

Barack Obama takes a break from campaigning and gets caught shirtless on the beach getting his surf on. Yikes, tan lines!

The family of slain teenager Lawrence King are placing blame on King’s school for allowing him to wear make-up and girls clothing to school–factors that allegedly lead to his murder. Huh? You’re his parents.

The perpetual hot mess that is Britney Spears, nominated for three awards, may perform at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Is this finally gonna be her comeback?

Daytime darling Ellen DeGeneres finally married her longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi this weekend in Los Angeles. Congrats, ladies! Now it’s Oprah and Gayle’s turn.

Shia LaBeouf has headed back to work after crushing his hand in an auto-accident last month that was apparently not his fault. He’s filming scenes for the upcoming sequel to Transformers.

Here’s a quite awkward interview American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee did with Newsweek to promote her upcoming film House Bunny. Clearly someone didn’t do their research before the interview.

Sony Pictures is doing a remake of the campy but creepy 90s film Candyman starring Tony Todd and Virgina Madsen. Looking back I laugh, but at the time that movie made me piss my little pants.

Fresh Music Video: Elliott Yamin - One Word

Posted under Elliott Yamin, Katharine McPhee, Music by Chris Evans on Tuesday 27 November 2007 at 11:18 am

Nice song, bad video. And why does he insist on the curly fro? I mean we all know Elliott is not the most conventionally attractive man in the world but you have to have enough money to get yourself to a barber at this point.

I only wish the much more talented and sexy Katharine McPhee had the success Elliott has has had. :(

Katharine McPhee Gets Engaged

Posted under Celebrities, Katharine McPhee by Chris Evans on Friday 28 September 2007 at 9:42 am

According to OK Magazine, American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee has gotten engaged to her longtime boyfriend Nick Cokas, 42.

Her longtime boyfriend, Nick Cokas, proposed to the 23-year-old recently, but friends insist it wasn’t a big surprise. An insider tells American magazine OK!, “They’ve been talking about it (marriage) for some time.”

Best of luck to Katharine and Nick! I’ll be waiting impatiently for I Know What Boys Like and her new album–which according to her is going to be John Mayer-esque.

Listen Up: Kellie Pickler: Things That Never Cross A Man’s Mind

Posted under Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Music by Chris Evans on Monday 24 September 2007 at 2:47 pm

Another new one from Kellie Pickler. Looks like Miss Pickler made out better than both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee when it comes to success. Now only if Kellie could beat Carrie Underwood everything would be dandy in Picklerland.

Fresh Links: X-Men Sequel In The Works?

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Katharine McPhee, Katherine Heigl, Sex and the City, Television, X-Men: The Last Stand by Chris Evans on Thursday 19 July 2007 at 6:31 pm

I know everybody’s got their favorite big movie franchise, and mine is the X-Men movies (even if the third one did blow). Us X-Men fans have been given hope by a new article suggesting another sequel could be in the works, in addition to the Wolverine and Magneto spin-offs.

NBC’s midseason drama Lipstick Jungle, based on a novel by Sex and the City novelist Candace Bushnell, has just let go of two of its executive producers–including the showrunner. Uh-oh. I hope Brooke Shields doesn’t upset Tom Cruise and turn to the pills again.

Katharine McPhee tells People magazine about a new temporary tattoo she got in Hollywood. It looks cute as does she. I can’t stop watching her Love Story video–especially those hypnotizing legs! If this is the effect they have on a gay man I can’t imagine how many straight guys have that video on repeat.

Monster’s Ball co-stars Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton are reuniting for a film called Tulia where Berry will play a lawyer for the NAACP defending a group of black men arrested under suspicious conditions in 1999. There is no word as to who Thornton will be playing yet.

Oscar nominee and one of my favorite actresses Julianne Moore has ditched her fiery red hair for light and airy blonde. I don’t know how I feel about it–I like my red heads, and this blonde look reminds me of her role in Freedomland–and the last thing I want is to ever think about that movie ever again. Ever.

Knocked Up and 40 Year Old Virgin star Seth Rogen is rumored to be involved in the writing of a film based on the Green Hornet, and may even possibly be starring in the movie as well. He may have an ass flatter than a pancake, but after seeing Knocked Up I may have a mini-crush on yet another funny Jew. Don’t be mad Shia. I still love you.

Actor Mandy Patinkin has suddenly announced his departure from CBS hit drama Criminal Minds, and is citing creative differences as the reason. I’m really curious to know what the real reason is, but there’s always gag orders on these types of things so I guess we’ll never know. I really liked that show whenever I could randomly catch it, but I don’t think I’ll be tuning in anymore without Mandy to anchor the show.

More pictures are surfacing from the set of Katherine Heigl’s new movie 27 Dresses where she plays a bridesmaid that takes part in 27 different weddings. I’m loving me some Katherine Heigl these days, especially after seeing Knocked Up. Congrats to her on her Emmy nomination!

Emmy Nominations Announced!

The 59th Annual Emmy nominations have been announced and boy am I pissed. The overrated Heroes stole a spot from the superior dramas like Friday Night Lights and Dexter, and Two and a Half Men somehow managed to yet again get a nod even though it’s one of the worst comedies on television.

The brilliant Michael C. Hall was snubbed as well, which I will be bitter about until next July, and Weeds was snubbed of a very well deserved nomination for Best Comedy Series to make room for the just okay Entourage and the embarrassing Two and a Half Men.

There are some things I’m very happy about, though. America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams got respective nods in the Lead Actress and Supporting Actress categories and I so hope they both win. Also, finally Kevin Dillon was given a nod for his comic portrayal of Johnny Drama on HBO’s Entourage. Sally Field received a nod for her powerful and poignant performance on Brothers and Sisters this year, and my favorite Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl finally got her nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Kudos to Felicity Huffman for being the only actress from Desperate Housewives nominated this year–she gave a fantastic performance in that heart-racing episode called “Bang”, but honestly I’m hoping it finally goes to my girl Mary-Louise Parker who, though she already has an Emmy from Angels In America, has deserved another one for Weeds since day one.

Congrats to all!

Fresh Music Video: Katharine McPhee - Love Story

Posted under Katharine McPhee, Music, Music Videos by Chris Evans on Wednesday 11 July 2007 at 12:19 pm

Katharine McPhee’s new song Love Story is a million times better than that generic mess Over It and luckily the video is better than that of the latter as well.

I love the performance scenes! Especially that one part at the end where she just throws herself back. Fierce!

Katharine McPhee, Nick Cokas, and Little Nena at LAX

Aww, they look like such a cute little family. Maybe my second favorite after Ben and Jen. Katharine’s video for Love Story apparently premieres on Yahoo! on July 11, and she stopped by the Early Show on Friday to sing the song, and two others–including one of my FAVORITES (which needs to be the next single) Not Ur Girl.

Videos from the Early Show after the jump. (more…)

Katharine McPhee In Stuff Magazine

Posted under Celebrities, Katharine McPhee, Music by Chris Evans on Wednesday 4 July 2007 at 11:20 am

Katharine on older men: “When I turned 21, I thought it was a good age to explore. You’re no longer a teenager, so it’s OK [to date older guys]. I gravitated toward them, and I love them. They’re just wiser, and they’re less about themselves and more about you.”

Katharine on her new album: “People made a big deal out of that. They said, ‘She’s a slut, blah, blah, blah.’ But I’m really not showing that much skin. It’s all suggested.”

Katharine on having a strong male following:
“I was prematurely developed. As a freshman I looked like a junior; I had boobs. Some of the older kids saw me in the yearbook and said I was cute.”
