Paula Abdul Drunk On Live Television
I watched the season premiere of American Idol last night, and though Paula’s behavior was pretty normal and subdued, her recent appearances to promote the show were nothing but.
Wow…just wow.

Could Paula Abdul be looking to expand her presence on television? Sources said she has been talking about a possible syndicated project with CBS Paramount Domestic Television, which distributes “Entertainment Tonight,” the newsmagazine for which Abdul has served as a special correspondent since the 2002-03 season.
Details on any potential project as well as what stage the talks may be at were unclear late Thursday, and the distributor declined comment. However, it wouldn’t be the first time an “ET” correspondent has eyed another syndicated show at CBS Paramount Domestic TV: Steven Cojocaru — who is featured on “ET” and its spinoff, “The Insider” — shot a talk show pilot in 2004 for the distributor. Abdul is in her fifth season as a judge on Fox’s “American Idol.”
She also was a guest co-host on Twentieth Television’s syndicated “Good Day Live” and has appeared on numerous talk shows as well as episodes of such TV series as ABC’s “Less Than Perfect” and Disney Channel’s “That’s So Raven.”
I was so incredibly excited it was Queen week, and thank God it was. After the debacles that were the past two weeks, we needed a breath of fresh air, and that it was.
Bucky Covington - “Fat-Bottomed Girls“. Good song choice for Bucky, but that doesn’t mean it sounded good. It was a pretty decent performance–but at this point in the show, you should be excellent every week. There’s still yet to be a Bucky Covington performance that knocked my socks off, and that’s what it’s all about. I want someone to honestly explain to me what not only makes Bucky different from the rest of the contestants left, but what makes him better>.

Ace - “We Will Rock You“. How do you say…complete and utter wrong choice of song? I know Freddie Mercury’s ballads are a little hard to live up to vocally, but there’s so many songs that fit better into Ace’s style than fucking “We Will Rock You“. Honestly, what was the logic behind this? The sad part is, he doesn’t even realize it sucked. He thinks he “rocked”. Well we’ll just see when you’re in the bottom three tomorrow night, sweetheart.

Kellie Pickler - “Bohemian Rhapsody“. Kellie Pickler goes Dominatrix? The hair’s scaring me a bit–it looks a little too Axl Rose goes to beauty school. And those boots look like something I’d see on RuPaul at a Bon Jovi concert. But all that aside, the performance was pretty good–definitely better than the crap she’s done the past two weeks, even though I would’ve liked to see her exert a bit more energy and show some more vocal range. She’s not going anywhere this week, though.

Chris Daughtry - “Innuendo“. I’m not sure how I feel about the emo eyeliner–it’s a little My Chemical Romance, but I really enjoyed the performance and he finally after weeks of me saying this–he finally showed what a great voice he has like he did with “Hemorrhage“. And of course, he looked sexy doing it–as always.

Katharine McPhee. “Who Wants To Live Forever” I honestly think she should’ve stuck to the first song. Just from the little bit I heard in her rehearsal, it sounded much better than her “Who Wants To Live Forever” shrill shouting. She tried to take a big risk, so I’ll give her that. But not every risk is a good one. Case in point: Lisa Tucker singing “Because of You” or Jasmine Trias singing “All By Myself” (that should never…ever…happen…again). I don’t wanna say she oversang the song–because that’s kind of how the song is written. I might say however, that the song was too big for her–in the way that “The Voice Within” was.

Elliott Yamin - “Somebody To Love“. Thank you Elliott! Dear God, his performance was so great. There were a few moments where he lost it a little bit, but it was so energetic, so fresh, so genuine–that it doesn’t matter. I loved it. It was the first performance of the night that made me stop and pay attention. It gave me chills. Bravo, Elliott. Bravo.

Taylor Hicks - “Crazy Little Thing Called Love“. This performance gave us one of the most hilarious moments in American Idol history. As if the whole kicking the mic stand thing wasn’t done enough times already, the silver fox tried it tonight and missed. I almost dropped my fruit punch when he went for it again. But I soon forgot it all, as his performance was nearly flawless. He was into it, he got the audience into the song, he showed great vocals, he completely delivered the song in every sense of the word. And Simon can go eat rotten salmon.

Paris Bennett - “The Show Must Go On“. I’m not so sure about the outfit, the song choice, or the cleavage (love the hair though), but Paris definitely sang it tonight. Like Randy said, the beginning was a little rocky, and even towards the middle when you thought she was gonna take it and run it didn’t quite get there, but at the end she pulled it all together (like she almost always does) and she quote “worked it out”.

American Idol judge Paula Abdul has reportedly filed a police report involving an incident at a party at 1 am on April 2 where she has claimed she was harassed and was physically battered at a Hollywood club.
Abdul claims she suffered a spinal injury and possible concussion after an altercation, according to a report from Us Weekly.
The Us Weekly blog reports that LAPD Lieutenant Paul Vernon told the weekly magazine: “At 9 p.m. April 4, Paula Abdul came into the Hollywood Station to fill out a police report.”
More from Us Weekly:
She said a man at the party grabbed her by the arm and threw her against a wall. She claimed to have a concussion and spinal injuries. She told officers that she sought her own medical treatment and that she would agree to have her injuries photographed at a later date.
[...]
Us Weekly reports it has learned that the night also ended with Abdul’s ex-boyfriend Dante Spencer in the hospital. According to a source, last Saturday night Abdul and friends headed to Xenii (a floating after-hours party held in a different location each week), where she ran into former CAA agent Jim Lefkowitz.
Lefkowitz took offense to Abdul’s “smirky attitude,” (insert Simon joke here) and Us reports that after a heated discussion, the agent “accidentally-on-purpose bumped into her” so hard that Abdul ended up sprawled on the floor.
Spencer then rushed to Abdul’s defense and punched Lefkowitz in the face, our witness says.
The mag’s blog reports that a shaken Abdul was taken home, complaining of pain in her lower back and a possible concussion. ( Resisting joke, resisting joke, this is a serious matter…)
Spencer was driven to the hospital where he received stitches for a cut below his eyebrow.
And fans of idol believe she acts strange on the show.
Bubbly “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul has signed on for three more years as the counterpoint to brutally honest Simon Cowell on TV’s hottest show, the Fox network said on Wednesday.
Abdul, a Grammy-winning singer and dancer and the show’s lone female judge, has become a fan favorite for her effusive, sometimes fawning praise of show’s aspiring stars in the face of bad boy Cowell’s punishing critiques.
“Paula’s warm and nurturing nature is vital to the balance of the show,” Fox spokesman Mike Darnell said of Abdul, who is expected to join Cowell and judge Randy Jackson for the duration of her new contract.
“We are thrilled to have her alongside — or actually in between — Randy and Simon,” Darnell said in a written statement.
The announcement comes less than a year after an internal investigation by Fox found no evidence to support claims by a former “Idol” contestant Corey Clark that he had a sexual affair with Abdul, 43, and that she coached him privately.
“It is truly an honor to be a part of the American Idol phenomenon,” Abdul said in a written statement. “As an artist myself it is a pleasure to have a connection with each of the contestants and be able to fully support their dreams and aspirations.
“Of course, I also look forward to putting Simon in his place for years to come.”
“Idol,” airing two or three nights a week this year, has grown into a ratings juggernaut for Fox and dominated U.S. television in prime time, overshadowing the hottest series of rival networks and even big-event broadcasts like the Grammy Awards and Winter Olympics.

Oh lord. Stevie Wonder night. How many wanna bet they butcher his catalogue?
Melissa McGhee’s black dress was stunning. Obviously she’s singing a ballad.
The show starts.
Ace Young, what the hell sweetheart. I’m gonna need you to find the pitch. As soon as he said he was gonna sing “Do I Do” I knew he was fucked. First of all, if you’re gonna sing a song like that, you at least need to stay in the right key. Second, you need to have charisma (see Mario Vazquez). Paula needs to get her ears and her blood checked. All that valium’s giving you delusions of grandeur sweetheart.
Kellie Pickler, what people love about you is that you’re adorable and unpretentious. The dress, the hair, even the song, it was all a little too Celine Dion. The rendition of the song was sweet, but you were nervous out of your ass, and it was one of the most boring performances I’ve ever seen in the top 12. With that said, as Simon would say, she’s going to “sail through” to next week. Let’s not forget people, Carrie Underwood’s performance of “When Will I Be Loved” in the first week of the Top 12 didn’t get good comments from the judges either. Then she came back next week and sang “Alone“.
Elliott Yamin, if you win, please use that million dollars to fix your teeth. I’m starting to feel like I’m watching someone sing in a subway station. With that said, it was a good performance, and the run at the end was great. He’s got a beautiful, soulful voice. He’s just gotta learn to color up the songs a bit more. Especially Stevie.
Mandisa’s performing barefoot. I feel slightly uncomfortable. It might have something to do with the fact that the midriff of her body is the most odd shape I’ve ever seen in my life. Or the fact that this is the shittiest song choice she could have possibly made. A few good vocal runs, but we already know you can sing. The performance overall was effective at best. Hopefully we’ll see better from you in later weeks.
Bucky Covington. First of all, your name’s Bucky. That in itself is a reason not to vote for you. Someone remind me how the lead singer of Nickelback’s inbred 3rd cousin got on American Idol? Second, this guy singing Stevie Wonder’s Superstition is like Hilary Duff playing Effie in Dreamgirls. Never again. Never…again. Please go back to the spontaneous hole in the ground in Utah you crawled out of.
Melissa McGhee, like I said, looks beautiful tonight. Very Felicity Huffman at the Oscars. Except a bit more Transamerica and a bit more tits. She’s singing “Lately”. I love this song. RJ Helton turned it out the first season. What..the…hell..? She absolutely BUTCHERED the lyrics and was off-pitch everywhere. She’s got a voice like Randy said, but how can you forget the words to “Lately“, sweetheart? And not just once, four times. I don’t agree with Simon that it was her best performance, she’s had better in past weeks, but it was a pretty good performance.
Lisa Tucker. Grr. I absolutely hate this girl and wish to God Ayla Brown was in her place. She’s so ridiculously overrated and I’m not sure why. What performance has she had so far that the judges have said has blown them away? Yet she’s the best 16 year old the show’s ever had? N-n-n-no. Her rendition of Tiffany Taylor’s “Here’s Where I Stand” was horrendous and she completely dodged the high note at the end that would’ve made the performance. What the hell is she wearing tonight? This outfit is a little too tween Pussycat dolls. And the performance of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” is laughable. Why do the judges keep saying how great she is? Where is the proof? It’s definitely not in the pudding. Simon…honey…best performance of the night? Can I have some of the acid you just dropped?
Kevin Covais. I’m gonna need you to not look like an albino fetus. I’ll admit it, at random moments, you are a little adorable. But mostly just annoying and freaky. What’s with the song choices tonight? Why in hell would he choose “Part-Time Lover“? The vocals..the dancing…the face….please excuse me while I go drown myself in my uncleaned toilet bowl. And have I mentioned yet how much I hate it when contestants get all pissy with Simon? Did Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood ever back-talk? No, they just took the criticism, nodded and smiled, and went on to win without ever even being in the bottom 3. Get over it.
Katharine McPhee looks great tonight. She looks very Martina McBride meets old Hollywood. I love her. Yes, honey. Finally someone’s on pitch. Oh, she sounds great. Stevie’s right, this girl has a lot of potential. This rendition of “‘Til You Come Back To Me” is beautiful. The great thing about Katharine is she knows how to make a performance magical even with the quiet moments. YES! Wow. Simon just compared Katharine to Kelly Clarkson. What a huge compliment.
Taylor Hicks, bitches. He really knows how to make you feel a song. I don’t know what it is about this man, but his performances just have this authenticity, this heart and soul that makes you smile without even realizing it. You feel the music in your veins. Great performance of “Living For The City“–I see him going so far. Just one thing Taylor…the caterpillars parked above your eyes are bothering me a bit.
Paris Bennett. Not sure about the Ghetto Fab Barbie look, but I love this girl’s voice. She’s singing “All I Do” and she’s singing the HELL out of it. Go ‘head GIRL! Paris is very Fantasia but younger, and with a more listenable voice. I really cannot wait to see what happens when this brilliant vocalist pulls out all the stops.
Chris Daughtry. I..need to marry this man. I love him. I just want to oil up that bald head, rub my hands all over it—uhhh, I mean…great performance. Most original of the night, definitely. But I don’t think it was the best vocal of the night. And I think vocally Chris can do much better.
Best of the Night:
Vocal: Katherine McPhee
Performance: Taylor Hicks
Originality: Chris Daughtry
Going Home: Bucky Covington

Paula Abdul unwittingly caused a security furore on Thursday when she was allowed to board an internal American flight without passing through a security checkpoint. The American Idol judge and a friend were flying from Las Vegas, Nevada to Burbank, California, on Thursday afternoon, when an airport employee waived her around security, rather than through it.
Upon the Southwest Airlines’ flight arrival in Burbank, all passengers and luggage had to be screened before they were allowed to leave the airport. A spokeswoman for the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) says, “We’re conducting an internal investigation to see who exactly was responsible.”
