Ellen Responsible For Oprah’s Worst Hate Mail

Posted under Ellen DeGeneres, Gay, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Wednesday 24 October 2007 at 10:21 pm

Oprah had a show today about how homosexuality affected people across the globe, one of which was former NBA player John Amaechi who mentioned a woman in New York City told him before he came out she didn’t know there were gay black people.

At the end of the show while talking to Rachel Dowd, Deputy Editor of The Advocate, Oprah opens up about the worst hate mail she’s ever received in the history of her career.

Oprah: You know, yeah, John and I were just saying during the commercial break it’s so easy to see when you look at other countries–there was–you can go to Oprah.com there was a piece that I don’t have time to run here today that was going to run but we’re live, on the Cairo 52 where 52 men were arrested in Cairo and held in prison for over a year. But when you see other countries doing that you think “Oh, isn’t that ridiculous, isn’t that awful?”. And yet, 2003 is when we decriminalized homosexuality here.

Rachel: Right. I do think we’re catching up. I think there’s signs. Ellen DeGeneres hosting the Oscars. It seems a little cheeky but that opened it up to a lot of people.

Oprah: That’s pretty amazing because I remember when I did–Ellen Degeneres–you know who she is? (To John)

John: Oh yes.

Oprah: Okay, Ellen DeGeneres. So when Ellen DeGeneres was doing her show and she came out on her show and I played the psychologist that she came out to–

[Audience Applauds]
[Oprah motions for them to stop]
[They do]

Oprah: So when I played the psychologist I got the worst hate mail in the history of my career for playing the psychologist that she came out to. And then years later, she gets to host the Oscars. That is progress.

I wish Oprah’s shows were more provocative like they were back in the day. Remember when she had some redneck racist guy on and everybody in the audience was going crazy like it was one of them episodes of Maury where some pre-teen skank with a tramp stamp walks out with her stank coochie showin’?

Get Tim Hardaway or Ja Rule on here and hold these people accountable for the dumb shit they say. But whatev, I love the Opester.

Fresh Links: Christina Aguilera Is Pregnant & Beautiful

Christina Aguilera is looking six months pregnant and gorgeous out on the town with her husband. She may have a newfound double chin, but she still looks sexy as ever.

Seth Green is set to make a guest appearance on waning drama Grey’s Anatomy. Hopefully he can spice up this show because this season has seriously put my ass to sleep.

Remember that Aaron Eckhart movie Thank You For Smoking? Apparently USA is making a TV series out of it. Ew. Big ew.

Ever wanted to know what Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell look like shirtless and swimming in a pool together? Your dreams have come true.

Hottie Jesse Metcalfe is coming back to Wisteria Lane and making another appearance on ABC hit Desperate Housewives. Nude scene, please!

The tragic decline of Jessica Simpson’s pathetic career continues, as her film Blonde Ambition gets banished to QVC. It’s not even good enough for a straight to DVD release!

Gavin Hood talks about the new Wolverine movie, a spinoff from the X-Men films. All I care about is whether Hugh Jackman’s going to get naked again or not. Thanks.

After earning an estimated 260 million dollars last year, Oprah Winfrey has been named the highest paid TV star by Forbes magazine. If only I could get her to pay off my college loans. :(

Sandra Bullock & Julia Roberts Among OK Magazine’s Richest Women

Posted under Celebrities, Christina Aguilera, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Bullock by Chris Evans on Thursday 19 July 2007 at 8:58 pm

Premonition may have sucked and bombed, and Perfect Stranger may have been as embarrassingly bad as its gross at the box office, but I suppose Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry are still doing pretty well for themselves financially.

SANDRA BULLOCK, MADONNA, JULIA ROBERTS and NICOLE KIDMAN have made it into the top five of a new list of rich celebrities. The quartet was beaten only by Oprah Winfrey in the OK! magazine Top 10 Female Breadwinners countdown - she topped the list with a $1.5 billion net worth. The publication’s top 10 also featured Christina Aguilera, Halle Berry and Jessica Alba, the youngest star on the list.

Glad to see my girl Christina on the list, and of course the Queen Oprah. Can anyone remember the last time Nicole Kidman even released a movie? And how the hell is Jessica Alba’s no talent ass on the list?

Fresh Links: Justin Timberlake Working With Madonna

Looks like it’s gonna be battle of the egos–Madonna and Justin Timberlake are teaming up to work on Madonna’s upcoming hip-hop inspired album. When will this woman stop trying to cling to anything young and popular?

Anderson Cooper, whom Out magazine just featured on their recent controversial magazine cover, just signed a $50 million dollar deal with CNN. Wonder if there’s a gay clause anywhere in there.

People are ready to brand HeroesHayden Panetierre another Lindsay Lohan due to a compromising picture involving her and a friend’s boob. I say what the hell–it looks like a harmless goofy joke. Get over it.

Larry Birkhead is indeed the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby. There. Now can Anna, Howard, the baby, her mother and the 1439147 possible fathers finally get out of my life? Thanks.

Are Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling getting married? A source close to Rachel says they are planning on getting married later this year. Can I be the beef patty in between the two buns a flower girl?

Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker are teaming up in a new film called The Great Debaters, which Denzel will also direct, and is being produced by Oprah Winfrey’s company Harpo Films. Can’t wait to see it!

ABC is bringing Oprah Winfrey to primetime during May sweeps, scheduling a special that looks back at the daytime TV titan’s “Legends Ball” last year.

The hour-long special, appropriately titled “Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Ball,” will feature footage from the 2005 event that brought together 25 African-American women for a three-day celebration of their lives and work. Among the honorees were Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Coretta Scot King, Aretha Franklin, Toni Morrison and Ruby Dee.

“These women, who have been meaningful to so many of us over the years, are legends who have been magnificent in their pioneering and advancing of African-American women,” Winfrey says. “It is because of their steps that our journey has no boundaries.”

The special is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET Monday, May 15, leading into the two-hour season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy.” It will feature interviews with some of the honorees and others who attended the ball, along with footage from the events of the weekend: a lunch for the honorees, a formal, white-tie ball and a gospel brunch that featured the likes of Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight.

In addition to the honorees, among those in attendance at the weekend’s events were Halle Berry, Sidney Poitier, Angela Bassett, Tom Cruise, Barbra Streisand, Sen. Barack Obama, Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones.

50 Cent Follows Ludacris And Bashes Oprah

Posted under Celebrities, Music, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey by Chris Evans on Saturday 29 April 2006 at 7:43 pm

He usually saves his beefs for other rappers; this time, 50 Cent is going after Oprah Winfrey.

In an interview with The Associated Press, he complained that Winfrey rarely invites rappers on her talk show. “I think she caters to older white women.”

Oprah’s audience is my audience’s parents,” the 29-year-old said. “So, I could care less about Oprah or her show.”

He’s not alone in his resentment toward the media magnate.

Rapper-actor Ludacris, a.k.a. Chris Bridges, said in the May issue of GQ magazine that Winfrey was “unfair” during a show he appeared on in October with co-stars from “Crash.”

“She edited out a lot of my comments while keeping her own in,” he said. “Of course, it’s her show, but we were doing a show on racial discrimination, and she gave me a hard time as a rapper, when I came on there as an actor.”

Winfrey’s representative at her production company, Harpo, said Winfrey was unavailable for comment.

But, as 50 Cent acknowledged, Winfrey’s purported disapproval of rap might enhance his street cred.

“I’m actually better off having friction with her,” he said.

Ludacris Lashes Out Against Oprah

Posted under Celebrities, Oprah, Oprah Winfrey, Television by Chris Evans on Friday 21 April 2006 at 4:43 am

Rapper Ludacris has lashed out at media mogul Oprah Winfrey for initially refusing to have him on her TV talk show and then publicly lecturing him about his rap lyrics. The hip-hop star, real name Chris Bridges, was taken aback when Winfrey took him to task about the use of the words ‘b**ches’ and ‘ho’s’ in his hits when Ludacris appeared on her show to promote acclaimed movie Crash.

Ludacris says, “She edited out a lot of my comments while keeping her own in. Of course, it’s her show, but we were doing a show on racial discrimination, and she gave me a hard time as a rapper when I came on there as a rapper. Initially, I wasn’t even invited on the show.” The rapper reveals Winfrey insisted on further lecturing him on his lyrics once the show was over. He adds, “After the taping, she pulled me into a room and we had a five-minute conversation. What I got was that by having rappers on her show, she feels like she’s empowering in them.

“It was like being at someone’s house who doesn’t really want you there.” The rapper admits he’d think twice before agreeing to return to the show: “I don’t see why (comedians) Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, who I am huge fans of, it’s OK for them to go on Oprah. “They speak the same language as I do, but they do it through comedy, so I guess that’s acceptable to her (Oprah).”
