Jennifer Hudson Wins The Golden Globe!

It happened guys! Jennifer Hudson won herself a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Now I just need her to win that damn Oscar! And how many did Miss Overexposed double nominee Beyonce win? Zero. Zilch. Nada. Not even the one she and her daddy were EXPECTING to win, Best Original Song–which went to Prince, a no-show (at the time–he showed up later).

After all that talk of how you lost 20 pounds, worked with an acting coach for 6 months, how you’ve always dreamed of an Oscar since you were a little girl, how your first choreographer TOLD you you were meant to play Deena, and how different you and Deena are from each other, you still walked away from the Golden Globes with egg all over your face.

Maybe she actually did win and they decided to change their minds at the last minute because she showed up looking like New York from Flavor of Love. This is the Golden Globes, honey, not the VMAs. You don’t show up in a dress you bought from Drag Queens ‘R’ Us and 10 different weaves in your damn head. Class it up a little.

Here’s video of Jennifer’s emotional speech. Girl had me cryin’.

Meryl Streep
took the award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy/Musical for her fantastic portrayal of Miranda Priestly (cough, Anna Wintour, cough) in huge blockbuster hit The Devil Wears Prada, and ended her hilarious speech with her signature line from the movie, “That’s all.” Helen Mirren took the lead award in the drama category for her performance in The Queen, Forest Whitaker and Sacha Baron Cohen took the Best Lead Actor awards for Drama and Comedy/Musical respectively.

Whitaker was expected, and is expected to win the Oscar as well, and Cohen’s only competition in the category was probably Ferrell or Eckhart, though both weak. This win gives Cohen better odds at nabbing an Oscar nomination, though the fact that he was snubbed at the SAG awards isn’t a good sign. We’ll see how it turns out.

Babel managed to beat out The Departed and The Queen for an undeserved win in the Best Motion Picture Drama category. For whatever reason, the Globes were way up Babel’s ass, as they also gave it a win for Best Director. Babel is honestly one of the most overrated films I’ve seen in years, and I can honestly say that every single film it was up against in that category deserved it more.

It’s no surprise, Dreamgirls edged out The Devil Wears Prada, Little Miss Sunshine, and Borat for a win in the Best Motion Picture Comedy/Musical category, cementing it as an even bigger Oscar contender than people thought before. It looks like Dreamgirls and The Departed are gonna be battling it out for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Over in the Television field, it was a good night for Ugly Betty. The new hit ABC comedy won Best Comedy Series as well as took home the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for its star America Ferrera. I was disappointed the brilliant Marcia Cross didn’t take home the award, but she wouldn’t have been there to accept anyway, and America is great on Ugly Betty.

Grey’s Anatomy
won for Best Drama Series even though Katharine Heigl (my favorite cast member) lost to the very deserving Kyra Sedgwick in the Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for The Closer.

Beyonce Says Meryl Streep Should Win Golden Globe

Posted under Awards, Beyonce, Celebrities, Dreamgirls, Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep, Movies by Chris Evans on Friday 22 December 2006 at 10:20 pm

Beyonce visited TRL on December 19, to of course promote Dreamgirls (which I saw a few days ago btw–review to come), and when asked about if she had prepared an acceptance speech, she replied that it wasn’t her time–and said that Meryl Streep deserves to win. Nice, and true…but honestly it seems more like something her daddy told her to say so she comes across as humble.

Here’s the interview by the way.

Golden Globe Nominations! Leo vs. Leo

Woohoo! I’m so happy today because my Desperate Housewives ladies Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman nabbed Golden Globe nominations! The show itself also got a nomination for Best Comedy Series.

But something interesting about this year’s nominations is…they nominated three people multiple times. Clint Eastwood got two Best Director nominations, Helen Mirren got two nominations for Best Actress in a Mini-Series as well as a Best Actress in a Drama nomination, and Leonardo DiCaprio received two nominations for Best Actor–one for Blood Diamond and one for The Departed.

It seems REALLY stupid to me, because obviously the person cannot win for both. It’s a waste of a nomination, especially when there are other deserving candidates who could be nominated. Luckily, there’s rules against this at the Oscars.

Some other nominations that made me happy:

Jeremy Piven - Entourage
Toni Collette - Little Miss Sunshine
Jennifer Hudson - Dreamgirls
Ben Affleck - Hollywoodland
Patricia Arquette- Medium
Kyra Sedgwick - The Closer
Michael C. Hall - Dexter
Katherine Heigl - Grey’s Anatomy
Ugly Betty
Thank You For Smoking

Snubs:

Vanessa Williams - Ugly Betty
Mariska Hargitay - Law & Order: SVU
Bill Condon - Dreamgirls (Best Director)
Ryan Gosling - Half Nelson (One of Leo’s noms would have gone to him)

New Desperate Housewives Promo, Meryl Streep’s Oscar Hopes, Christina Aguilera On Letterman, Kelly Clarkson Gone Wild

A new Desperate Housewives promo just surfaced for the new season, and I’m loving it! It’s not as good as last year’s Juicy promo with all the apples and Marcia Cross with the knife and blood, but it’s still great. And I love how they’re all walking together at the end–they look fab! Well…except for Eva. Not sure what’s happening with that hair but it needs to get changed back..STAT.

***

So it’s official. Meryl Streep and 20th Century Fox have decided to campaign her as Lead Actress for her role in The Devil Wears Prada for the upcoming awards season, including the Oscars. I think it’s a dumb idea–she has a better chance at winning in the supporting category–but Fox is obviously greedy. Dude…there’s no doubt about it. Anne Hathaway’s character IS the main character. This is some bullshit. Collateral, anyone?

This might even keep her from a Golden Globe nomination (-cough- Jake Gyllenhaal -cough-). Whatev.

***

Christina looked gorgeous yesterday at the Letterman taping where she belted out her top 10 hit Ain’t No Other Man. The interview was cute too…even if Letterman did randomly mention Ikea. Vids in the forum, bitches.

***

Gotta love Kelly Clarkson. She’s one down to earth bitch.

‘Pirates’ Sequel Breaks Box Office Records

Posted under Anne Hathaway, Box Office, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Keira Knightley, Meryl Streep, Movies, Orlando Bloom, Superman Returns by Chris Evans on Monday 10 July 2006 at 4:02 am

Source: Coming Soon

Walt Disney Pictures’ highly-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy, broke Spider-Man’s ($114.8 million) four-year-old opening weekend record with a massive $132 million from 4,133 theaters, the fourth-widest release ever.

The movie made $55.5 million on Friday (the biggest single day and opening day in box office history, surpassing Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith ($50 million)), $44.7 million on Saturday (the fifth-biggest single day) and $31.8 million on Sunday, for an average of $31,944 per theater for the weekend.

If estimates hold, this means that “Dead Man’s Chest” crossed the $100 million mark in two days, which has never been done before - the previous fastest time was three days. “Dead Man’s Chest” also earned $46.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $178.6 million. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski, the movie cost about $225 million to make. The third installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, hits theaters on May 25, 2007.

The big opening for “Pirates” caused Warner Bros.’ Superman Returns to drop 58.4% in ticket sales, for a second weekend take of $21.9 million. The Bryan Singer-directed comic book adaptation, made for $260 million, has reached $141.7 million in 12 days.

In third place, 20th Century Fox’s The Devil Wears Prada earned another impressive $15.6 million in its second weekend, pushing its total to $63.7 million in just two weeks. The comedy, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, cost $35 million to make.

Adam Sandler comedy Click collected $12 million for the fourth spot and has earned a total of $105.9 million in three weeks.

Disney/Pixar’s animated-comedy Cars held up well in its fifth week, earning $10.3 million for a total of $205.5 million.

In limited release, Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly, with Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson, garnered $406,000 from just 17 theaters, for an average of $23,882 per location.

The teaser poster for Saw III has been released.

The Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway movie “The Devil Wears Prada” is getting rave reviews.

I’ve always loved Anne Hathaway–especially in “Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain“. Can’t wait to see the film.

‘Cars’ Takes #1 At Box Office

Posted under Box Office, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan, Meryl Streep, Movies, Vince Vaughn by Chris Evans on Monday 12 June 2006 at 12:09 am

Cars,” the latest animated feature from newly merged Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios, zoomed past “The Break-Up,” starring real-life celebrity couple Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, to finish first in North American theaters this weekend.

Cars,” the cinematic tale of a talking hot rod named Lightning McQueen, brought in $62.8 million during its opening weekend, box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. said on Sunday.

The Break-Up,” a surprise hit romantic comedy that actor Vaughn helped write, slipped into the No. 2 spot with $20.5 million in its second weekend.

The Friday-to-Sunday gross for “Cars” was the third-biggest opening for a film from Disney-Pixar, which has had a string of hits that have wheeled in more than $3.2 billion worldwide.

Cars,” featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Helen Hunt and racing icon Richard Petty, is the seventh film from the team and its first collaboration since Disney acquired Pixar in January for $7.4 billion.

Chuck Viane, Disney’s president of distribution, expects the film to cross the $100 million mark sometime next weekend.

“I think we’re going to have legs,” he said. Viane added that international distribution has been delayed until the completion of the World Cup soccer championship on July 9.

The G-rated feature, in which up-and-coming race car Lightning McQueen learns valuable life lessons during a forced pit stop in a sleepy town, is directed by John Lasseter, whose “Toy Story 2” opened at $57.4 million.

The “Cars” opening weekend lagged the $70.5 million posted by “The Incredibles,” which chronicled the adventures of a superhero family, and the $70.3 million take from the fish tale “Finding Nemo” — the highest-grossing Disney-Pixar film ever, having reeled in more than $865 million worldwide.

“X-Men: The Last Stand,” the fantasy film starring Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, came in at No. 3 with $15.6 million and has so far brought in $201.7 million — making it the first film of the year to break the $200 million mark.

News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox released “The Omen” on the date 6-6-06 and set a record for the most money collected by a movie with a Tuesday debut.

The horror remake is about a boy named Damien Thorn, who is a spawn of the devil and branded with the number 666 — which Christianity refers to as the mark of the devil. The movie scared up opening weekend receipts of $15.5 million.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.’s “Over the Hedge” fell from third place to fifth.

The animal cartoon, which brought in $10.3 million over the weekend and $130.3 million since its debut, edged out “The Da Vinci Code.” That thriller had the second-biggest worldwide box office debut and has brought in $642 million globally, according to a spokesman for Sony Corp., whose Columbia Pictures unit distributed the film.

On the independent front, director Robert Altman’sA Prairie Home Companion,” brought in $4.7 million from 760 theaters to land for a seventh place weekend finish.
