Brokeback Mountain Coming To Broadway?

Posted under Broadway, Brokeback Mountain, Hugh Jackman, James Marsden by Chris Evans on Tuesday 24 July 2007 at 12:02 pm

Rumors are swirling that there is an effort to bring the massive hit and critically acclaimed cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain to Broadway. There is no word as to whether it will be adapted as a play or as a musical, but there are two stars who are supposedly being approached to star in the Broadway adaptation. X-Men co-stars Hugh Jackman and James Marsden have been named as the two actors they are shooting for to star as Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in the weeper love story. Considering the hopeful casting choices, I’m going to go ahead and assume it’s being adapted into a musical.

We know Hugh Jackman for his singing from his Tony winning performance in The Boy From Oz, where he played gay singer and songwriter Peter Allen, and James Marsden just recently showed off his impressive vocal chops as Corny Collins in Hairspray. Both have sung previously, and both have played gay roles before–Marsden played a gay man in the movie Heights, but would they take on such an acclaimed and successful film, knowing the difficulty of duplicating the success and praise when brought to a stage, especially to music?

I could definitely see the show being a commercial hit–especially with such hunky co-stars, many will turn out just to see them kiss on stage–and I can’t imagine the stage door frenzy after each show. But I’m skeptical as to whether this story will translate well to the stage (I mean…it takes place on a mountain…what about the sheep?) and whether it will work as a musical. But then again, I was wary of The Color Purple on Broadway, and that turned out to be a wonderful play. Time will tell if any of these rumors are even true.

Fresh Hotness: Hugh Jackman In Scoop & Chris Evans In Fantastic Four Sequel

Posted under Celebrities, Gay, Hugh Jackman, Movies by Chris Evans on Sunday 3 December 2006 at 4:17 am

The movie looked mediocre at best and Woody Allen bores me to tears, but at least if I’m going to have to sit through two hours of stale jokes I can look forward to seeing Hugh Jackman shirtless.

***

Chris Evans is of course the only reason to see either of the Fantastic Four movies seeing as how the first one was a dud and we all know sequels are rarely as good as the originals.

Here’s a few promotional pics of Chris in his suit.

Fresh Links: Lindsay Lohan Gets Abducted

Posted under Broadway, Hugh Jackman, Jesse Metcalfe, Julia Roberts, Lindsay Lohan, Movies, Television, Weeds by Chris Evans on Saturday 18 November 2006 at 11:34 pm

Lindsay Lohan is getting abducted by a serial killer.

Hugh Jackman is definitely no amateur, but he wants to play one.

Thank you Jesus! Showtime greenlit a third season of Weeds.

I prefer the sequel, but nonetheless Sister Act is coming to Broadway.

The crazy bitches from Flavor of Love 2 are going to charm school

Wtf. Robert De Niro and 50 Cent are co-starring in a movie about Katrina.

Desperate Housewives hottie Jesse Metcalfe is “loaded“.

The first Inside Man underwhelmed me but maybe the sequel will be better.

My girl Julia Roberts is taking up knitting.

Alan Cumming Squeezed Hugh Jackman’s Ass, Eyes Marriage To Partner

Posted under Celebrities, Gay, Hugh Jackman by Chris Evans on Thursday 9 November 2006 at 7:50 pm

Scottish hottie Alan Cumming dished about his experience on X-Men 2 (one of my favorite movies ever) and working with the delicious Hugh Jackman. Cumming says Jackman is so sexy, he couldn’t resist harassing him on set. He tells UK Gay magazine Attitude:

“Yes, I did find Hugh very alluring. Did I flirt with him? No more than anyone else! I would touch his leather pants and give his arse a little squeeze, but he’s totally comfortable with that.”

Alan may not be able to have Hugh Jackman (he’s both straight and married), but he does have his partnet Grant Shaffer who he reportedly is planning to marry.

The two have been in a relationship for over 2 years and and Cumming wants to have a civil ceremony in his native Britain. He also tells Attitude:

“Maybe (we’ll marry). I think if we could get married in America we totally would have by now.
“I’d have my friends Andrew and Sue as bridesmaids and also Cyndi Lauper and maybe Liza. But then maybe she’s had enough of gay weddings by now… especially after her own!”

Coming up Cumming has Suffering Man’s Charity with David Boreanaz, a project that Alan also directed and produced. As well as Coming Out that also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rugby hottie Gavin Henson. It’s about a gay cabaret performer played by Cumming, that must lead his father’s rugby team to victory after his death.

Fresh Links: Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine Script Is Finished

Posted under American Idol, Celebrities, Gay, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, Johnny Depp, Julia Roberts, Lost, Movies, Nip/Tuck, Sandra Bullock, Television by Chris Evans on Thursday 19 October 2006 at 7:59 pm

Hugh Jackman says the script for the Wolverine prequel is finally finished.

Nip/Tuck creator and director of Running With Scissors Ryan Murphy is adapting and directing a film called “Eat, Pray, Love” that Julia Roberts will star in.

NBC better get their asses back to the drawing board because their Fall sitcoms are crashing and burning. Hmm..could explain why they just fired 700 employees.

A new Sandra Bullock comedy is being developed called All About Steve where she plays a brilliant crossword puzzler that stalks a TV news camera man.

Talledega Nights star Sacha Baron Cohen is set to star alongside Johnny Depp in the screen adaptation of Sweeney Todd.

The season finale of Flavor of Love gave VH1 its highest ratings in the history of the network. It’s a sad day when VH1’s programming kicks MTV’s ass.

CBS’ crime show Criminal Minds takes down ABC drama “Lost” for the first time.

Jennifer Aniston’s eyeing to star in a new dramedy written by the screenwriter of Hollywoodland.

American Idol season one contestant RJ Helton just recently came out of the closet. I kind of knew he was gay back when he was on American Idol, but I was also in love with him so I thought maybe it was just wishful thinking. Now I know my gaydar really is the shit. He was my fave before I heard Kelly Clarkson sing “Respect.”

Saw III Poster Unveiled

Posted under Anne Hathaway, Celebrities, Hugh Jackman, Meryl Streep, Movies by Chris Evans on Wednesday 28 June 2006 at 11:22 pm

The teaser poster for Saw III has been released.

Here’s a tiny version of it:

The Hollywood Reporter has updated its article on “Wolverine” and has deleted all mention of a 2007 release for the Hugh Jackman film.

The Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway movie “The Devil Wears Prada” is getting rave reviews.

I’ve always loved Anne Hathaway–especially in “Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain“. Can’t wait to see the film.

Pop Culture Digest: Wolverine In 2007, and Lady In the Water

Posted under Bryce Dallas Howard, Celebrities, Hugh Jackman, Movies, Television, The View, Trailers by Chris Evans on Wednesday 28 June 2006 at 5:22 am

X-Men spinoff film ‘Wolverine‘ is set for release in 2007. It’s the first film to be produced under Hugh Jackman’s new production company Seed Productions, and it’ll be penned by David Benioff (25th Hour, Troy, Stay).

I hope they mean late 2007 and not the summer, because according to IMDB, the movie is still in development–not even in pre-production, and currently there’s no director. I guess that’s not too big of a problem–Brett Ratner didn’t come onto X-Men 3 until the very end and we all know how that worked out. (Please note the sarcasm).

Kate Bosworth’s teaming up with Orlando Bloom in the Tim Blake Nelson directed film “Seasons of Dust“. I’ve never really cared for either actor (even in “Elizabethtown” where Orlando was good, he got upstaged by Kirsten Dunst), but Kate seems like the kind of actress that could be good given the right role, and I’m anxious to see what she’s done with Lois Lane in Superman Returns.

Judging from the story, this movie seems like something completely different and challenging for both actors, so maybe it’ll be good. Not too sure about Nelson’s directing talents as the only movie I’ve seen that he’s directed is ‘O‘. That one was pretty good.

Star Jones Reynolds finally leavesThe View.” It was about time–I was really getting tired of hearing about Payless, Al, and her weight loss through “diet and exercise”. Although, I was really hoping she’d stay on long enough at least for Rosie to sit on her Wicked Witch of the West face a few times. Damn.

Oh well, at least Rosie can bite off Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s head–I’m getting really sick of her uninformed pointless conservative diatribes. Seriously, sweetheart–you got this job because you were on Survivor. And you didn’t even fucking win. Shove your head into a wood chipper.

Everyone’s favorite director except mine M. Night Shyamalan’s new flick “Lady In The Water” looks like yet another dud. I always say, artists get screwed when they get big heads because they stop striving to do their best work. He has to be the most full of himself director I’ve ever seen in my life, and it shows in his crappy films (sans ‘Sixth Sense‘).

Who knows, maybe Bryce Dallas Howard can save this movie like her and Joaquin Phoenix did with his last one, “The Village“. Apparently Jeffrey Wright’s in the film too…and he’s seriously an acting God. But seeing as how he doesn’t appear in the trailer, he probably has some crappy bit part that doesn’t showcase his incredible skills, and yet another fantastic actor goes underrated and underused. Great job Hollywood. Rent “Angels In America“.

It hits theaters on July 21.

‘Cars’ Takes #1 At Box Office

Posted under Box Office, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan, Meryl Streep, Movies, Vince Vaughn by Chris Evans on Monday 12 June 2006 at 12:09 am

Cars,” the latest animated feature from newly merged Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios, zoomed past “The Break-Up,” starring real-life celebrity couple Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, to finish first in North American theaters this weekend.

Cars,” the cinematic tale of a talking hot rod named Lightning McQueen, brought in $62.8 million during its opening weekend, box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. said on Sunday.

The Break-Up,” a surprise hit romantic comedy that actor Vaughn helped write, slipped into the No. 2 spot with $20.5 million in its second weekend.

The Friday-to-Sunday gross for “Cars” was the third-biggest opening for a film from Disney-Pixar, which has had a string of hits that have wheeled in more than $3.2 billion worldwide.

Cars,” featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Helen Hunt and racing icon Richard Petty, is the seventh film from the team and its first collaboration since Disney acquired Pixar in January for $7.4 billion.

Chuck Viane, Disney’s president of distribution, expects the film to cross the $100 million mark sometime next weekend.

“I think we’re going to have legs,” he said. Viane added that international distribution has been delayed until the completion of the World Cup soccer championship on July 9.

The G-rated feature, in which up-and-coming race car Lightning McQueen learns valuable life lessons during a forced pit stop in a sleepy town, is directed by John Lasseter, whose “Toy Story 2” opened at $57.4 million.

The “Cars” opening weekend lagged the $70.5 million posted by “The Incredibles,” which chronicled the adventures of a superhero family, and the $70.3 million take from the fish tale “Finding Nemo” — the highest-grossing Disney-Pixar film ever, having reeled in more than $865 million worldwide.

“X-Men: The Last Stand,” the fantasy film starring Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, came in at No. 3 with $15.6 million and has so far brought in $201.7 million — making it the first film of the year to break the $200 million mark.

News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox released “The Omen” on the date 6-6-06 and set a record for the most money collected by a movie with a Tuesday debut.

The horror remake is about a boy named Damien Thorn, who is a spawn of the devil and branded with the number 666 — which Christianity refers to as the mark of the devil. The movie scared up opening weekend receipts of $15.5 million.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.’s “Over the Hedge” fell from third place to fifth.

The animal cartoon, which brought in $10.3 million over the weekend and $130.3 million since its debut, edged out “The Da Vinci Code.” That thriller had the second-biggest worldwide box office debut and has brought in $642 million globally, according to a spokesman for Sony Corp., whose Columbia Pictures unit distributed the film.

On the independent front, director Robert Altman’sA Prairie Home Companion,” brought in $4.7 million from 760 theaters to land for a seventh place weekend finish.

Jackman Replaces Crowe In Luhrmann Film

Posted under Celebrities, Hugh Jackman, Movies, Nicole Kidman by Chris Evans on Wednesday 7 June 2006 at 12:32 pm

Actor Hugh Jackman has stolen fellow Australian Russell Crowe lead role in Baz Luhrmann’s new film epic, after the Gladiator star was reportedly dumped by the director.

The X-Men star wowed the Moulin Rouge! film-maker and he will now play Nicole Kidman’s lover, instead of Crowe, in a movie set around the Japanese bombing of Darwin, Australia, in 1942.

Luhrmann tells Hollywood reporter: “He just continues to astound in terms of his range, whether it’s Boy From Oz or Wolverine. “He’s always been a leading man, but he is moving toward being an iconic leading man, which is perfect for the story we’re doing.”
