Sandra Bullock & Julia Roberts Among OK Magazine’s Richest Women

Posted under Celebrities, Christina Aguilera, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Bullock by Chris Evans on Thursday 19 July 2007 at 8:58 pm

Premonition may have sucked and bombed, and Perfect Stranger may have been as embarrassingly bad as its gross at the box office, but I suppose Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry are still doing pretty well for themselves financially.

SANDRA BULLOCK, MADONNA, JULIA ROBERTS and NICOLE KIDMAN have made it into the top five of a new list of rich celebrities. The quartet was beaten only by Oprah Winfrey in the OK! magazine Top 10 Female Breadwinners countdown - she topped the list with a $1.5 billion net worth. The publication’s top 10 also featured Christina Aguilera, Halle Berry and Jessica Alba, the youngest star on the list.

Glad to see my girl Christina on the list, and of course the Queen Oprah. Can anyone remember the last time Nicole Kidman even released a movie? And how the hell is Jessica Alba’s no talent ass on the list?

Fresh Links: X-Men Sequel In The Works?

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Katharine McPhee, Katherine Heigl, Sex and the City, Television, X-Men: The Last Stand by Chris Evans on Thursday 19 July 2007 at 6:31 pm

I know everybody’s got their favorite big movie franchise, and mine is the X-Men movies (even if the third one did blow). Us X-Men fans have been given hope by a new article suggesting another sequel could be in the works, in addition to the Wolverine and Magneto spin-offs.

NBC’s midseason drama Lipstick Jungle, based on a novel by Sex and the City novelist Candace Bushnell, has just let go of two of its executive producers–including the showrunner. Uh-oh. I hope Brooke Shields doesn’t upset Tom Cruise and turn to the pills again.

Katharine McPhee tells People magazine about a new temporary tattoo she got in Hollywood. It looks cute as does she. I can’t stop watching her Love Story video–especially those hypnotizing legs! If this is the effect they have on a gay man I can’t imagine how many straight guys have that video on repeat.

Monster’s Ball co-stars Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton are reuniting for a film called Tulia where Berry will play a lawyer for the NAACP defending a group of black men arrested under suspicious conditions in 1999. There is no word as to who Thornton will be playing yet.

Oscar nominee and one of my favorite actresses Julianne Moore has ditched her fiery red hair for light and airy blonde. I don’t know how I feel about it–I like my red heads, and this blonde look reminds me of her role in Freedomland–and the last thing I want is to ever think about that movie ever again. Ever.

Knocked Up and 40 Year Old Virgin star Seth Rogen is rumored to be involved in the writing of a film based on the Green Hornet, and may even possibly be starring in the movie as well. He may have an ass flatter than a pancake, but after seeing Knocked Up I may have a mini-crush on yet another funny Jew. Don’t be mad Shia. I still love you.

Actor Mandy Patinkin has suddenly announced his departure from CBS hit drama Criminal Minds, and is citing creative differences as the reason. I’m really curious to know what the real reason is, but there’s always gag orders on these types of things so I guess we’ll never know. I really liked that show whenever I could randomly catch it, but I don’t think I’ll be tuning in anymore without Mandy to anchor the show.

More pictures are surfacing from the set of Katherine Heigl’s new movie 27 Dresses where she plays a bridesmaid that takes part in 27 different weddings. I’m loving me some Katherine Heigl these days, especially after seeing Knocked Up. Congrats to her on her Emmy nomination!

Fresh Links: Nicole Kidman To Guest Star On Nip/Tuck

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is starring in an upcoming episode of hit drama Nip/Tuck. Apparently she personally went to Ryan Murhpy and asked him to give her a role where she could wear a bunch of scary prosthetics. The Hours, anyone?

The sequel to the Jim Carrey hit “Bruce Almighty”, “Evan Almighty”, starring Steve Carrell and Lauren Graham is making headlines for it’s ridiculous budget of 250 million dollars. It is the highest budget ever for a comedy.

Our beloved Desperate Housewives takes yet another dip in the ratings despite the hottness of both Jesse Metcalfe and newcomer Josh Henderson.

Contrary to the rumors, Jake Gyllenhaal will not be reuniting with his Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger in the Batman Begins sequel.

Halle Berry is starring in a new movie called “Class Act” where she’ll play a teacher who takes up a challenge by her students to run for Congress. Hopefully this’ll suck less than…oh, anything else she’s ever done?

Diane Sawyer’s interview with bigot Mel Gibson is set to air tomorrow, and it seems completely pointless for anyone to watch. It’ll be an hour of damage control by a liar and a fraud. Go see his new movie Apocalypto, though! (Note the sarcasm).

Eartha Kitt Wants Halle Berry For Biopic

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Movies by Chris Evans on Sunday 25 June 2006 at 10:33 pm

Iconic singer/actress Eartha Kitt has suggested Halle Berry star in a biopic of her life, because her original choice Beyonce Knowles is too curvaceous.

The original Catwoman star has written about her seven decades in showbusiness in her memoirs I’m Still Here and Rejuvanate: It’s Never Too Late and is thrilled to hear Hollywood bosses are casting for the big screen adaptation of the books. The 79-year-old says, “I do not think I have quite the derriere of Beyonce. Give me Halle Berry instead.”

‘Cars’ Takes #1 At Box Office

Posted under Box Office, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan, Meryl Streep, Movies, Vince Vaughn by Chris Evans on Monday 12 June 2006 at 12:09 am

Cars,” the latest animated feature from newly merged Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios, zoomed past “The Break-Up,” starring real-life celebrity couple Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, to finish first in North American theaters this weekend.

Cars,” the cinematic tale of a talking hot rod named Lightning McQueen, brought in $62.8 million during its opening weekend, box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. said on Sunday.

The Break-Up,” a surprise hit romantic comedy that actor Vaughn helped write, slipped into the No. 2 spot with $20.5 million in its second weekend.

The Friday-to-Sunday gross for “Cars” was the third-biggest opening for a film from Disney-Pixar, which has had a string of hits that have wheeled in more than $3.2 billion worldwide.

Cars,” featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Helen Hunt and racing icon Richard Petty, is the seventh film from the team and its first collaboration since Disney acquired Pixar in January for $7.4 billion.

Chuck Viane, Disney’s president of distribution, expects the film to cross the $100 million mark sometime next weekend.

“I think we’re going to have legs,” he said. Viane added that international distribution has been delayed until the completion of the World Cup soccer championship on July 9.

The G-rated feature, in which up-and-coming race car Lightning McQueen learns valuable life lessons during a forced pit stop in a sleepy town, is directed by John Lasseter, whose “Toy Story 2” opened at $57.4 million.

The “Cars” opening weekend lagged the $70.5 million posted by “The Incredibles,” which chronicled the adventures of a superhero family, and the $70.3 million take from the fish tale “Finding Nemo” — the highest-grossing Disney-Pixar film ever, having reeled in more than $865 million worldwide.

“X-Men: The Last Stand,” the fantasy film starring Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, came in at No. 3 with $15.6 million and has so far brought in $201.7 million — making it the first film of the year to break the $200 million mark.

News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox released “The Omen” on the date 6-6-06 and set a record for the most money collected by a movie with a Tuesday debut.

The horror remake is about a boy named Damien Thorn, who is a spawn of the devil and branded with the number 666 — which Christianity refers to as the mark of the devil. The movie scared up opening weekend receipts of $15.5 million.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.’s “Over the Hedge” fell from third place to fifth.

The animal cartoon, which brought in $10.3 million over the weekend and $130.3 million since its debut, edged out “The Da Vinci Code.” That thriller had the second-biggest worldwide box office debut and has brought in $642 million globally, according to a spokesman for Sony Corp., whose Columbia Pictures unit distributed the film.

On the independent front, director Robert Altman’sA Prairie Home Companion,” brought in $4.7 million from 760 theaters to land for a seventh place weekend finish.

Halle Berry Hints At X-Men 4

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Movies, X-Men: The Last Stand by Chris Evans on Wednesday 17 May 2006 at 5:03 pm

X-Men star Halle Berry has hinted the hit franchise may not end after the third installment this summer, because fans are so enthusiastic for more. X-Men: The Last Stand was supposed to be the final film of the sci-fi series but Berry is adamant more will be produced if demand is great enough.

And the former Bond girl is so smitten with her role as Storm in the movies, she’d drop all her future film plans to concentrate on follow-ups. She says, “There’s no real significant talk about it but I think if this one did well it would warrant a four. I’m sure the studio would be thinking that the franchise isn’t dead and people love X-Men and want to see another one and I think they would (do another one).”

“I would (do it) as long as I could. I’ve got some projects now that should keep me busy for the next two or three years if I’m lucky. It’s a franchise that I love and a character that I love and now that I have a voice in the movie I really love it. If another great X-Men (film) came along I could probably change my plans.”

ABC is bringing Oprah Winfrey to primetime during May sweeps, scheduling a special that looks back at the daytime TV titan’s “Legends Ball” last year.

The hour-long special, appropriately titled “Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Ball,” will feature footage from the 2005 event that brought together 25 African-American women for a three-day celebration of their lives and work. Among the honorees were Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Coretta Scot King, Aretha Franklin, Toni Morrison and Ruby Dee.

“These women, who have been meaningful to so many of us over the years, are legends who have been magnificent in their pioneering and advancing of African-American women,” Winfrey says. “It is because of their steps that our journey has no boundaries.”

The special is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET Monday, May 15, leading into the two-hour season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy.” It will feature interviews with some of the honorees and others who attended the ball, along with footage from the events of the weekend: a lunch for the honorees, a formal, white-tie ball and a gospel brunch that featured the likes of Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight.

In addition to the honorees, among those in attendance at the weekend’s events were Halle Berry, Sidney Poitier, Angela Bassett, Tom Cruise, Barbra Streisand, Sen. Barack Obama, Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones.

Morgan Freeman and Halle Berry Team Up For ‘The Patient’

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Movies by Chris Evans on Saturday 29 April 2006 at 12:44 am

MTV talked to filmmaker Jean-Claude La Marre who says that Morgan Freeman and Halle Berry will star in his next project, the family Christmas film The Patient.

La Marre, who wrote the script and will direct, said, “It’s like ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest‘ meets ‘K-Pax.’… Freeman plays a mental patient at a Harlem hospital psychiatric ward who believes himself to be Santa Claus. And Halle Berry plays the psychiatrist who’s evaluating him.”

When Freeman’s character escapes the hospital and turns up at a Toys “R” Us, Berry wonders if the old man might just be telling the truth.

La Marre plans to begin shooting the film this summer and intends to have it in theaters for Christmas 2007.

Hating Halle Berry: Oscar Injustices Revealed

Posted under Celebrities, Halle Berry, Movies, Television by Chris Evans on Thursday 22 December 2005 at 5:48 pm

Out in Hollywood there are many actors that I admire. Many. And when it comes to black actors, not only do I admire the great ones, but I cheer them on because they’re breaking down boundaries and jumping over brick walls that wanna keep them playing junkies, dead beat dads, and “the help”. Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Alfre Woodard, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, Angela Bassett–to name a few–are all wonderful talents and their gifts should be revered. Why is it though, that some actors are taking buckets of glory for simply, after years of playing unchallenging and boring roles, act, are they recgonized as if they’ve gone above and beyond?

Angela Basset’s performance in What’s Love Got To Do With It?…brilliant. Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Kimberly Elise in Set It Off…riveting. Denzel in, well, everything ever…amazing. So many good performances. Why is it, then…that a black actress finally wins the Academy Award for Best Actress, and it’s pretty-faced shit for talent Halle Berry? “Can you make me feel good? Can you make me feeel gooood?! CAN YOU MAKE ME FEEL GOOOOOD?!”, she growls. No, Halle, I can’t, but I’m sure that Oscar sure did.

What film has this woman ever been in that has impressed people? Let’s look at her Filmography.

Jungle Fever
-Random crackhead. Congrats, you’re an actress.

The Flinstones
-You know you’ve made it big when Barney Rubble loves your work.

Losing Isaiah
-Crackhead again. Well shit. Where’s the academy when you need ‘em?

Executive Decision
-Effective performance here in a pretty general blockbuster kind of herione role. Nothing to brag about.

The Rich Man’s WifeRemember this film? Me neither.

B.A.P.S.
-This performance, although it gave me a chuckle, was nothing more than what Brett Ratner could get out of LaShawntae Jackson selling herself in East Harlem after an acting lesson or two.

Bulworth
-If the most anyone remembers from one of your films is you dancing with Warren Beatty and sticking out your tongue, you know you’re in for a Razzie.

Why Do Fools Fall In Love?
-What a waste of Vivica A. Fox’s talent. What a waste of America’s time watching Halle embarass herself on screen once more. Wait…you can’t waste America’s time if America doesn’t care to GO SEE THE FILM. BOMB. Yet again.

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge
-I must give Berry her props here. This movie and her performance in it was actually pretty good. If only good acting wasn’t a one time gig.

X-Men
-And here’s where I rant. X-Men, being my favorite comic-book franchise ever, was an excellent film, and X2 was even better. But there’s one problem…where’s Ororo Monroe, or as most people know her, Storm? I’ve watched both movies many times and still haven’t found her, even after playing a few games of “Where’s Wald–er–Storm?”. Berry doesn’t attempt an accent, or a voice for the character, doesn’t read into any of the subtext, and plays her like a weak, prissy, damsel who is all sex and no bite or bark. Storm is the one of the frickin’ leaders of the X-Men, Halle! Storm is strong, Storm is passionate, Storm is powerful. Maybe you would’ve found that out had you picked up even one issue of any of the X-Men series, watched any episodes of the 90s television cartoon, or talked to any devout fan of the franchise. Good going, Halle. I smell a Golden Globe.

Swordfish
-Iiiiiiii’ve got saggy tits! That’s all I, or anyone else I know thinks of when referring to Halle in this campy film.

Monster’s Ball
-And now we arrive at it:Monster’s Ball. Yes, this is a pretty good film, and yes Halle Berry’s performance is effective. But effective is far from excellent. Dear Jesus, Halle took off her make-up and spread her legs (literally. No really…she literally spreads her legs and moans in the much buzzed about explicit sex scene in this film)–let’s give her a statue! I am appalled and disgusted that Halle won an Oscar for this film. And I know what you’re all thinking. “Who are you? The Academy obviously liked the performance, so shut the eff up.” But here’s my theory. I really don’t think she won the Oscar for this movie based solely on performance (though I know, this is the case a lot). I truly think her win for this film was more political than anything. I feel like the Academy felt like it was finally time for a black woman to win Best Actress, and Halle happened to let a few sunspots show on camera just at the right time for it to happen. Denzel and Halle win in the same night, it’ll shut those racism accusations up for another 5 years. What a disgrace.

What do you all think about Halle’s win, her performance in X-Men and Monster’s Ball, and what other performances do you think were awarded that shouldn’t have been. Tell me about all the Oscar Injustices.

P.S. Halle had better be glad I never got to Catwoman
