Julia Roberts Gets Honored By American Cinematheque

Julia Roberts was honored by American Cinematheque with the help of her pals and co-stars Tom Hanks, and Natalie Portman.

Julia said:

“I think I came along at a kinder time in the business. It wasn’t about fashion, and there weren’t so many media outlets, it was just kind of different. You could really cultivate your work a little more gently.”

Emmy Nominations Announced!

The 59th Annual Emmy nominations have been announced and boy am I pissed. The overrated Heroes stole a spot from the superior dramas like Friday Night Lights and Dexter, and Two and a Half Men somehow managed to yet again get a nod even though it’s one of the worst comedies on television.

The brilliant Michael C. Hall was snubbed as well, which I will be bitter about until next July, and Weeds was snubbed of a very well deserved nomination for Best Comedy Series to make room for the just okay Entourage and the embarrassing Two and a Half Men.

There are some things I’m very happy about, though. America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams got respective nods in the Lead Actress and Supporting Actress categories and I so hope they both win. Also, finally Kevin Dillon was given a nod for his comic portrayal of Johnny Drama on HBO’s Entourage. Sally Field received a nod for her powerful and poignant performance on Brothers and Sisters this year, and my favorite Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl finally got her nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Kudos to Felicity Huffman for being the only actress from Desperate Housewives nominated this year–she gave a fantastic performance in that heart-racing episode called “Bang”, but honestly I’m hoping it finally goes to my girl Mary-Louise Parker who, though she already has an Emmy from Angels In America, has deserved another one for Weeds since day one.

Fresh Links: Alec Baldwin To Leave 30 Rock?

Posted under Anderson Cooper, Desperate Housewives, Gay, Golden Globe Awards, Julia Roberts, Katherine Heigl, Movies, Television by Chris Evans on Thursday 26 April 2007 at 4:36 am

After being publicly humiliated after a nasty voice mail he left for his 11 year old daughter was leaked, leaving his agency, CAA, and dragging Kim Basinger back into court, Alec Baldwin is now asking NBC to let him out of his 30 Rock contract early so that he can spend more time with his family. Instead, he needs to just get a really good therapist.

It seems the Golden Globes are no longer afraid of the Desperate Housewives. After shifting their telecast to Monday nights to avoid competition, they are now moving the show back to Sunday nights despite seeing a large ratings increase from 2006 and topping off with 20 million viewers. I think one of Nicollette Sheridan’s tits can take down the Globes all on its own.

Even after all these years Julia Roberts is still one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and even while pregnant. Here’s some recent pics of her while exiting her trailer on the set of her new movie with Ryan Reynolds, Fireflies In The Garden. The movie, which comes out in 2008, also stars Hayden Panettiere and Carrie Anne Moss.

There’s a current debate over whether CNN hottie Anderson Cooper showers at the gym in the nude, or with underwear on. Page Six claims that in the new age of the camera phone, you can never be too careful, so Anderson refuses to shower in the buff–given the attention he gets from both sexes. Whether he’s in underwear or naked, the point is–Anderson Cooper…wet. Pictures, please.

Four of the Spice Girls, Sporty, Baby, Ginger, and Posh, reunited for the christening of Geri Halliwell’s baby Bluebell this past weekend. Unfortunately, Scary–Mel B, could not attend–as she had just recently given birth to a newborn baby of her own. Baby looks pretty bad, though she is four months pregnant. I really wish they would do a reunion tour. I’d totally do drag.

Grey’s Anatomy beauty Katherine Heigl has signed on to play the lead role in the romantic comedy 27 Dresses. Written by the screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada, it’s a film about a woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times, and once again she is enlisted to play the role, but this time it’s her sister’s wedding, and her sister is marrying the man she’s in love with.

Dryden Mitchell, the lead singer of rock band Alien Ant Farm (you might remember them for that cover they did of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal so many years ago), has bared it all for a new tour DVD the band has released called Busted. You’ll either find it really hot, really hilarious, really disturbing, or all three. Straight men are puzzling creatures.

Disney recently announced that production has finally started on the third installment of the Toy Story franchise. The film will come out in 2010, and both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have signed back on to voice Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Hopefully it’ll be just as good as the first two movies, and not just some lame attempt to cash in on nostalgia. Bitches.

Carrie Underwood Cleans Up At The CMT Awards

Posted under Awards, Carrie Underwood, Music by Chris Evans on Monday 23 April 2007 at 1:06 am

Carrie Underwood walked away a happy camper at this year’s CMT Awards with wins for Best Female Video, Video of the Year, and Roman White walked away with Video Director of the Year for his work on the Before He Cheats video. The video won in all three categories in which it was nominated.

And of course she gave one fierce ass performance.

In other Carrie news, Before He Cheats is taking the pop charts by storm. It’s #15 this week on Billboard, rapidly moving up on airplay and downloads, and it just recently passed the one million mark for amount of downloads sold. The album, Some Hearts, has sold 5.2 million copies to date–500,000 shy of Kelly Clarkson’s US numbers for Breakaway. But rest assured, Carrie won’t touch Kelly’s worldwide numbers–Breakaway has sold just shy of 8 million copies around the world.

Fresh Links: Things Looking Up For Medium

Posted under Awards, Celebrities, Gay, Medium, Movies, Television, Tom Hanks, Vince Vaughn by Chris Evans on Sunday 22 April 2007 at 11:13 pm

Things are looking up for NBC’s moderate hit and one of my favorite shows, Medium. They still have not announced if the show is getting picked up or not, for a fourth season, however NBC has ordered six more scripts, which is a good sign.

What in the world has happened to Vince Vaughn? He used to be so damn sexy, and used to have a really hot body. Remember Clay Pigeons? Now he looks like one of the Marlboro Man’s inbred grandchildren.

Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are returning for the prequel to The DaVinci Code, called Angels and Demons. DaVinci earned nearly 800 million dollars worldwide, so I’m sure both are going to see a pretty penny come paycheck time.

In yet another odd comic book movie casting choice, Avi Arad has revealed that Edward Norton will be playing Bruce Banner, better known as The Incredible Hulk in the next installment of the franchise. Hopefully it’s a lot better than that horrible film with Jennifer Connelly and Eric Bana.

Lots of A-Listers, and even more C-Listers turned out for the recent GLAAD Media Awards, including Jennifer Aniston, who for whatever reason received an award, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Hudson, and Patti LaBelle.

Pink tells Jimmy Kimmel she wants to make sure President Bush hears her song Dear Mr. President completely uncensored. And she thinks he may even respond with a song of his own. Through Eminem.

After nearly a decade, thanks to Ted Kennedy, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act–originally introduced in 1999 might finally get passed. With a Democratically controlled congress, and Judy Shepard’s (Matthew Shepard’s mother) support, maybe now we can get federal protection for gay people from vicious hate crimes.

Anika Noni Rose will be voicing the lead role in Disney’s upcoming animated feature The Frog Princess, in what will be historic as the first Disney film to have an African-American princess. Rose reportedly beat Tyra Banks, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson for the role.

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams To Break-Up?

Posted under Celebrities, Heath Ledger, Independent Spirit Awards, Michelle Williams, Television by Chris Evans on Wednesday 28 February 2007 at 7:42 pm

Brokeback Mountain co-stars and Academy Award nominees Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams might be headed for a break-up in the near future. The New York Daily News is reporting that the two lovebirds, who share a child together–17 month old Matilda–had a huge argument after Heath was spotted around a hoard of women on Valentine's Day at a popular L.A. night club called Teddy's.

Reportedly, he wasn't doing anything too inappropriate but some say Michelle is still very angry with him for going out and partying on Valentine's Day while she sat home with the baby. It's possible things have cooled down between the two of them since they were spotted on the red carpet together this past Oscar weekend at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Ledger's next upcoming project is a film called I’m Not There where he, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, and Christian Bale will all be playing music legend Bob Dylan. The film is written and directed by the brilliant Todd Haynes, and Michelle Williams is also starring the project. After that he's playing The Joker in the next installment of the Batman franchise called The Dark Knight, where he will again co-star with Christian Bale, along with Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Linkage: Oscar Wrap-Up, Justin Timberlake Sex Scene

Posted under Academy Awards, Awards, Beyonce, Celebrities, Christina Ricci, Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Timberlake, Movies, Television by Chris Evans on Monday 26 February 2007 at 7:28 pm

Congratulations to Jennifer Hudson for winning her well-deserved Oscar for Dreamgirls, and pulling off a great performance during the ceremony. I was disappointed they didn’t do “It’s All Over” and “And I Am Telling You”, but the medley they did of the nominated songs was great. As expected, Jennifer and Anika made Beyonce sound like a hummingbird. Wonder how Matthew Knowles feels about his daughter losing out on an Oscar to an amateur actress/American Idol reject, and getting reduced to a common back up singer in the performance. Beyonce looked genuinely happy for Jennifer, but the look on Papa Knowles’ face when J. Hud became an Academy Award winner was priceless. Watch her speech now.

I must say though, as much as I hate on Beyawnce, she looked gorgeous last night. Her dress on the red carpet and her performance dress were some of the best of the night. She was probably the best right behind Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, and Naomi Watts.

Here’s their performance:

I was both shocked and pissed that Eddie Murphy lost the Oscar to Alan Arkin. The Supporting Actor category was a weak one this year, and Eddie’s performance in Dreamgirls was not only the best of his career, but far above the other nominated performances. Some are speculating Norbit hurt his chances. I think it has more to do with him being a comedic actor. It’s sad really.

Either way, Eddie Murphy and his date Tracey Edmonds left the ceremony promptly after he lost.

I was glad Martin Scorcese finally got his Oscar, and that The Departed won Best Picture. I would’ve killed myself if Babel was named the best film of the year. Very happy that Helen got hers, though it would’ve been interesting to see an upset in that category, and then of course as expected, Forest Whitaker took home his Oscar gold for his haunting performance in The Last King of Scotland.

***

In non-awards related news, Justin Timberlake’s new movie Black Snake Moan with Christina Ricci and Samuel L. Jackson is releasing soon, and I guess they need serious promotion so they have leaked the sex scene from the film to the internet. They would’ve been better off not leaking it at all, because at least you could’ve imagined seeing something hot and would’ve gone to see the movie out of curiousity. Instead, you’re just disappointed.

You don’t get to see anything interesting (sorry, no Justin booty), and the sex is over after like 15 seconds. Almost as boring as Beyonce performing a ballad.

Either way, if you wanna see the scene, you can view it here.

In Honor of Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar Win Tonight…

Posted under Academy Awards, Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson, Television by Chris Evans on Sunday 25 February 2007 at 4:15 pm

We all know J Hud’s gonna take home the Oscar tonight. She’s won every other award under the sun, and the competition is weak. So in honor of what I know will be her first Oscar at tonight’s telecast, I bring you the amazingness that is Jennifer Hudson.

Good luck tonight Jennifer and Eddie!
