Heroes: I’m Hooked

After everyone seemed to be raving about NBC’s new hit (finally) Heroes, I figured I should watch the first episode just to see what all the fuss and buzz was about. The show didn’t end up being as amazing as a lot of people seem to think it is, but it’s definitely entertaining, and it’s getting better as it goes on.
The best character on this show is most definitely Claire, and every scene they write with her keeps the show afloat. I love it. Hayden Panetierre is absolutely riveting on this show, and I find it funny that a 17 year old girl is embarrassing the entire cast of this show. She puts their acting to shame week after week.
Ali Larter’s definitely doing a great job of playing the dual characters, the delicious Adrian Pasdar (who by the way, is married to Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks) plays the selfish lying jerk to a tee, Greg Gunberg makes his flawed character lovable, Maki Osa plays the adorable Hiro (ironic, yes) with humor and humility, and Zachary Quinto does creepy like nobody does creepy.
Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Adrian Pasdar’s whiny little brother is seriously the weak link in this show–which sucks because they have him playing such a pivotal character in the story. I would liken his acting skills to that of the young Keanu Reeves. Bill and Ted anyone? It doesn’t help matters that they give him the most elementary, cliche lines to say ever.
But the writing is getting better. For those of you who have seen the X-Men movies, think about the difference between X-Men and X2. In X-Men they were basically letting you get to know the characters, setting up the storylines, etc. But X2 is a far superior film where they really let loose and take you for a ride. In the beginning of the Heroes series, they give you just enough to intrigue you, even if you sometimes find yourself rolling your eyes at the melodrama. But at this point in the season the characters are more believable, the dialogue is crisper, and you’re more glued to your seat.
Can’t wait for next week’s episode!
Yeah, I’m in love with this show!!! And I too think Claire is the most interesting character on the show.
