The Gayness of Javier Bardem

In light of hottie Javier Bardem’s recent Oscar win, Popnography decided to look back at Out magazine’s 2001 interview with the actor, when he was promoting the biopic Before Night Falls, about gay Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas.

Due to the writers strike, the actresses of Desperate Housewives are currently out of work. Marcia Cross and her husband took the extra time and went shopping.

Johnny Depp is looking gorgeous and hobo chic as always in NYC at a dinner outing with friends. I can’t wait to see Sweeney Todd!

Apparently Linda Hogan wants a divorce from wrestling star Hulk Hogan. This family is seriously so much drama. Brooke’s a tranny hot mess, Nick’s a drunken vehicular murderer, and now these two are going at it in court. Sheesh.

Are you as sick of hearing Meredith Grey’s voice as I am? Good news for you and me. Dr. Bailey is taking over temporarily as the narrarator of Grey’s Anatomy in an upcoming episode.

Seth Rogen has supposedly been slated to play the Green Hornet in the upcoming Justice League movie, so he’s been trying his best to bulk up. Don’t go all Mario Lopez, Seth! 0% body fat is NOT cute.

For whatever reason, Lindsay Lohan is coming out with yet ANOTHER shitty album. This time she might be teaming up with 50 Cent.

Johnny Depp To Play Freddie Mercury?

According to the UK Independent, Robert DeNiro’s production company Tribeca Productions is developing a biopic based on the life of legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Rumor has it recent Golden Globe nominee Johnny Depp is slated to play Mercury. Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed the project is in development. On his website he posts:

“Discussions are at an early stage. He (Johnny) would be a worthy counterpart for Freddie on screen. I don’t think I can say any more right now.”

Depp is pretty resemblant to Freddie, but other than that, we know he’s pretty good at playing sexually ambiguous characters. We’ve seen him play Edward Scissorhands, cross-dressing director Ed Wood, zany Willy Wonka, and of course the swishy and flamboyant Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

If this really does end up happening, I cannot wait to see the film. Johnny is always great at playing eccentric characters, and God knows it’ll be fun seeing him in those costumes. I swear, there’s nothing this man can’t do. Who are other people that could play Freddie? I say Eric Bana. He looks so much like him it’s freaky.

Golden Globe Nominations! Leo vs. Leo

Woohoo! I’m so happy today because my Desperate Housewives ladies Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman nabbed Golden Globe nominations! The show itself also got a nomination for Best Comedy Series.

But something interesting about this year’s nominations is…they nominated three people multiple times. Clint Eastwood got two Best Director nominations, Helen Mirren got two nominations for Best Actress in a Mini-Series as well as a Best Actress in a Drama nomination, and Leonardo DiCaprio received two nominations for Best Actor–one for Blood Diamond and one for The Departed.

It seems REALLY stupid to me, because obviously the person cannot win for both. It’s a waste of a nomination, especially when there are other deserving candidates who could be nominated. Luckily, there’s rules against this at the Oscars.

Hugh Jackman says the script for the Wolverine prequel is finally finished.

The season finale of Flavor of Love gave VH1 its highest ratings in the history of the network. It’s a sad day when VH1’s programming kicks MTV’s ass.

CBS’ crime show Criminal Minds takes down ABC drama “Lost” for the first time.

Jennifer Aniston’s eyeing to star in a new dramedy written by the screenwriter of Hollywoodland.

American Idol season one contestant RJ Helton just recently came out of the closet. I kind of knew he was gay back when he was on American Idol, but I was also in love with him so I thought maybe it was just wishful thinking. Now I know my gaydar really is the shit. He was my fave before I heard Kelly Clarkson sing “Respect.”
