Pics From Christina’s New “Candyman” Video

I love the look of the video! Can’t wait ’til it comes out. I can already see the gays eating this song up like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Below are two pics from the set, and the above picture is one that someone edited in photoshop. I love it–it looks like one of those old Coca-Cola ads.

Here’s some reference pics for the inspiration of the video.

Fresh Gay Icon: Katharine McPhee On H/X Magazine

Posted under American Idol, Celebrities, Gay, Katharine McPhee, Music, Television by Chris Evans on Sunday 28 January 2007 at 4:43 am

I love me some Katharine McPhee, and I knew she’d be a gay icon back when I watcher her on American Idol. Looks like she’s one dance hit away from my prediction.

With the exception of slavery and voting George W. Bush into office, choosing Taylor Hicks over Katharine McPhee might just be the biggest mistake that the United States of America has ever made. The prematurely gray dude may’ve won season four of American Idol, but the raven-haired runner-up should give even the staunchest Soul Patroler a bad case of McPheever with her poppy self-titled debut album. We spoke to the 22-year-old knockout about her highly publicized weight struggles, her bad breakups and her long history with homos.

HX: Are you into the new season of American Idol?
Katharine McPhee: Actually, I prefer to watch closer to the top 24 when the competition really starts. Before that, honestly, I get kind of bored. I’d rather just see the good stuff. But I’m definitely looking forward to tuning in as much as I can, especially now knowing what those poor kids are going through.

Were you prepared for the media scrutiny that’s come with your new fame?
I don’t think you’re ever prepared for that. Luckily for me I live in the Valley, so it’s not really paparazzi-ridden. Recently I’ve started to get people following me, but I just give ’em what they want and walk off. If they catch me with no makeup, whatever, that’s what I’m like in real life. More people should get to know the real me anyway.

But you’re a fashionista now!
I’ve always loved fashion, but I was never really in the body that I felt comfortable in, so I always got stuck wearing big sweatshirts and jeans because I was really self-conscious. I still don’t have the best body image, but I feel better about myself, so I now really embrace fashion. I love Vivienne Westwood and everything from little T-shirts from James Pierce to Juicy to Dolce & Gabbana. Stores like Forever 21 are really fun, too.

What do you hope people take away from your debut album?
I just hope people see a little bit more of my fun, young spirit than they did on Idol. I put on a stern face to deal with getting negative feedback in front of millions of people. That was my business Katharine. But the people who really know me know how silly I am.

After the huge success of your single “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” last year, are you concerned that fans might be expecting a more traditional album of standards?
On Idol you’re just trying to make it week by week. You don’t think, Okay, this song is going to affect the way people perceive my record should be. Yes, I do love Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand, but if you asked me since I was 10 years old what kind of record I wanted to make, it was always rhythmic pop or R&B-pop. Thankfully, I got to make the record I wanted to make.

The lead single, “Over It,” deals with a breakup. How do you get over a man?
I should have a song on my next album about being a cold-hearted woman. [Laughs] Fortunately, I’ve been able to move on very quickly from my relationships. Except for one or two. And when I’m singing that song, I’ll definitely be thinking about them.

Do your gay fans make themselves known?
Yay! Gay Pride! [Laughs] I’d love them to make themselves more known! I went to musical theater school, so my gay boys and I go way back. One of my best friends is totally gay and we have so much fun together. Every girl needs a good gay man by her side. I love that I have somewhat of a gay following, and hopefully I can get more because they’re such great supporters of the arts.

Which songs are your gay boys going to go crazy for?
The boys are going to just love “Open Toes.” I have this feeling it’s going to make them want to put on their little open- toe shoes and walk around West Hollywood. And “Dangerous,” which is another breakup song about how you should never let your guard down - like, I’m warning you, this guy is going to do you wrong! I’m hoping we can remix them with some techno vibes so we can all get on the dance floor. I’m definitely planning to visit the gay clubs in New York at some point.

Do you party hard and panty-less like Paris and pre- rehab Lindsay?
Uh, no, not quite like that. But I’ve met all those girls, and they’re actually very nice. I don’t like to drink too much. I just like to get dressed up, look cute and dance. I can dance forever! When I went to Boston Conservatory, we used to go out to the gay clubs in Boston and dance for hours. Me and my girlfriends would also crash big gay parties at these mansions - we were totally not supposed to be there! Of course, they always embraced us and we had a lot of fun.

What should a Katharine McPhee drag queen always remember?
It’s all about the hair and brows.

What’s the secret to that fab ’do?
Well, sometimes I add those little clip-in extensions. If you’re looking to go out, the clip-ins are great because they’re really convenient and they don’t damage your hair.

You sound ready to be a gay icon.
Totally! Madonna, here I come!

Oscar Nominations

Posted under Academy Awards, Awards by Chris Evans on Sunday 28 January 2007 at 2:50 am

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been on vacation. But yes, I have seen the Oscar nominations, and suffice it to say I am truly pissed. I have two words. Mark. Wahlberg. WTF?

I have more things to say about this year’s nominations including the Dreamgirls snub for Best Picture, but I’ll save it for either tomorrow or Monday when I have more time and energy to post.

For now, here are the nominations for those who haven’t seen them.

UPDATE: Okay, it’s finally time for me to weigh in on this year’s Oscar nominations. Suffice it to say they’re pretty boring this year. Even more boring than last year…which I know is saying a lot.

Best Actor

Leonardo DiCaprio in “Blood Diamond” (Warner Bros.)
Ryan Gosling in “Half Nelson” (THINKFilm)
Peter O’Toole in “Venus” (Miramax, Filmfour and UK Council)
Will Smith in “The Pursuit of Happyness” (Sony Pictures Releasing)
Forest Whitaker in “The Last King of Scotland” (Fox Searchlight)

Pretty much expected. If DiCaprio were nominated here for The Departed, he might actually have a chance at winning, but once I saw the words “Blood Diamond”, I knew Whitaker had this award wrapped up like a damn Christmas gift. Glad to see Ryan Gosling here though. Maybe somehow he could pull an upset and turn this snoozefest into a shocker.

Best Actress

Penélope Cruz in “Volver” (Sony Pictures Classics)
Judi Dench in “Notes on a Scandal” (Fox Searchlight)
Helen Mirren in “The Queen” (Miramax, Pathé and Granada)
Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada” (20th Century Fox)
Kate Winslet in “Little Children” (New Line)

Same as Best Actor. All of these nominations were expected. Once again, Kate Winslet is nominated in a year where she has no chance of winning–given the competition. But she’s young, she’ll finally get her Oscar someday. This race is between Mirren, Streep, and Dench, with Mirren clearly having the edge over the other two.

Best Supporting Actor

Alan Arkin in “Little Miss Sunshine” (Fox Searchlight)
Jackie Earle Haley in “Little Children” (New Line)
Djimon Hounsou in “Blood Diamond” (Warner Bros.)
Eddie Murphy in “Dreamgirls” (DreamWorks and Paramount)
Mark Wahlberg in “The Departed” (Warner Bros.)

How Mark Wahlberg made it in here instead of Jack Nicholson or…anyone else really..I don’t understand. Maybe Warner Bros. should’ve campaigned Matt Damon’s performance as Supporting or something..I don’t know. I’ve just never been more puzzled by a nomination in my life. He did a good job with his role, but not only is it REALLY small, it’s nothing special. Neither is Jack Nicholson’s performance, but it was certainly better than Mark’s. Everyone else in this category is a deserved nominee, but I think Eddie Murphy’s gonna run away with this one, and he should.

Best Supporting Actress

Adriana Barraza in “Babel” (Paramount and Paramount Vantage)
Cate Blanchett in “Notes on a Scandal” (Fox Searchlight)
Abigail Breslin in “Little Miss Sunshine” (Fox Searchlight)
Jennifer Hudson in “Dreamgirls” (DreamWorks and Paramount)
Rinko Kikuchi in “Babel” (Paramount and Paramount Vantage)

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Babel is the most overrated movie this year and the performances are just as overrated. Rinko Kikuchi’s performance is the only once even possibly worthy of some buzz and even hers doesn’t live up to the greatness of her fellow nominees’, but alas, this category was a weak one this year. I would’ve rather seen Sharon Stone’s performance from Bobby be in Barraza’s spot, but the movie was so critically panned she didn’t have a chance. Looks like Dreamworkd/Paramount was smart to campaign Jennifer as supporting–because at this point her name is already inscribed on the Oscar statuette. The other nominees need not attend.

Best Picture

“Babel” (Paramount and Paramount Vantage)
“The Departed” (Warner Bros.)
“Letters from Iwo Jima” (Warner Bros.)
“Little Miss Sunshine” (Fox Searchlight)
“The Queen” (Miramax, Pathé and Granada)

Seeing the Dreamgirls snub was definitely the biggest shock after seeing Mark Wahlberg’s name on the list. Maybe it was backlash from all the hype around a flawed film, maybe it was the lack of big Blockbuster box office success, maybe it was racism against a movie with an all black cast (Color Purple anyone?), or maybe it was all three. Who knows. But at least this means one thing–Beyonce will NOT be attending. Or at least I hope so. After that trashy display at the Golden Globes, I’m afraid to see what Drag number she’ll pull out of a clearance bin for the Oscars.

Beyonce’s Father: “Golden Globes Are Racist”

Posted under Awards, Beyonce, Celebrities, Golden Globe Awards, Television by Chris Evans on Friday 19 January 2007 at 6:39 pm

So by now we all now that Beyonce did not win either of the Golden Globe awards she was up for Monday night. Best Original Song went to Prince, and Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy went to Meryl Streep. The latter was expected. But apparently Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles cannot get over the fact that his daughter actually lost an award, even if both of them were to living legends. This is his statement to the press directly after the Golden Globes Monday night.

“Today is Martin Luther King’s birthday and it saddens me to say that things have not changed for blacks. Working class blacks and blacks in Hollywood are still being discriminated against. We still have a long way to go.”

Excuse me? Things have not changed for blacks? Okay, let me break it down for you sweetheart since you seem to really be that damn dense. Your daughter lost to Prince. Last I heard Prince wasn’t white. The other award she lost, she lost to Meryl Streep. Probably the best and most respected actress living today. Meanwhile Beyonce can barely say she got rave reviews. Now let’s think about the other people that won Monday night. Hmm….every award Dreamgirls was nominated for except the ones your daughter was up for. Jennifer Hudson won. Black. Eddie Murhpy won. Black. Forest Whitaker won. Black. America Ferrera won. Spanish. The director of Babel won. Spanish. Yet the Globes are racist? You need to just get GONE. You, your wife, and your overrated, non-acting daughter need to get the fuck OUT OF HERE with that mess.

Isaiah Washington Issues An Apology

Posted under Celebrities, Gay, Golden Globe Awards, Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight by Chris Evans on Thursday 18 January 2007 at 8:44 pm

Looks like he’s finally folded and decided to apologize for his actions on Monday.

“I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance,” Washington said in a statement issued Thursday. “By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.

“I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I’ve hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.

“T.R.’s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity.”

ABC Issues Official Statement On Isaiah Washington/T.R. Controversy

Posted under Celebrities, Gay, Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight, Television by Chris Evans on Thursday 18 January 2007 at 6:32 pm

This was posted via TV Guide in the past half-hour:

“We have a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed ‘unfortunate’ in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.”

I hope they don’t think these few sentences that their PR team put together is going to somehow make this whole thing go away. It surely isn’t.

Desperate Housewives Scoop!

Posted under Celebrities, Desperate Housewives, James Denton, Marcia Cross, Television by Chris Evans on Thursday 18 January 2007 at 4:43 pm

Fans of Desperate Housewives will be happy to know there’s a few juicy things in store on Wisteria Lane in the coming months. Michael Ausiello of TV Guide gives us the scoop on Andrew going evil again, and Edie going after Carlos.

Question: Anything big in store for Andrew on Desperate Housewives?

Ausiello: Not sure if this qualifies as big, but the little demon is going to return to his old ways when he suspects Orson of pushing Bree off a ladder. In related news, care to guess how producers plan to accommodate Marcia Cross’ mandatory bed rest?

I can’t TELL you how many times I’ve heard gay men whine that there isn’t enough Andrew anymore, so I’m sure they’ll be happy now.

Question: Can you give us some prattle on Desperate Housewives?

Ausiello: You probably already heard that Marc Cherry announced at press tour on Sunday that Nicollette Sheridan’s role on the show is getting beefed up, partly to fill the void left by bedridden Marcia Cross, and partly because, well, it’s about bloody time. What you may not have heard is that (Major spoiler alert) Edie’s gonna make a play for Carlos, which makes complete sense given what Nicollette told me in our red-carpet Q&A: “There are going to be a lot of people who are very unhappy with Edie on Wisteria Lane.”

It looks like Mike Delfino will also be getting a storyline upgrade thanks to Marcia Cross’ twins. James Denton who plays Mike says he’s getting out of jail earlier than expected.

After frantically turning the actress’ real-life home into a replica of her house on the show, in an effort to complete her scenes for the current series, Housewives creator Marc Cherry had to quickly revise storylines. And that was a big boost for Denton’s character Mike, who will be getting out of jail sooner than expected. He explains, “Because we’re losing Marcia mid-season, that mystery has to wrap up pretty quickly because we need her. So, it’s kind of fun, because it got me out of jail quicker!”
