American Idol finalist Katharine McPhee cancelled all press appearances yesterday, a day after admitting she had battled bulimia, IMDb.com reports.

McPhee was supposed to appear with other Idol contestants for press interviews but the singer was a no-show.

She went public with her battle with bulimia in the latest edition of People magazine.

The “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” singer was also scheduled to be interviewed by several US entertainment TV shows, but cancelled at the last minute without explanation.

Katharine should not have given an interview about the eating disorder. Frankly, I wonder if American Idol knew about this…? If so, I’m surprised she was accepted as a contestant. Everyone has problems in their past, but she was still suffering from this disorder during the competition! Whoever told Katharine to go public gave terrible advice. Maybe the story was about to get out anyway and she wanted to contain the damage? That’s the only rational explanation I can think of. .

I think it is a good thing that she went public with this because she is a role model for young teenage girls.

Talking about it will help other girls that may be struggling with these same issues.

However, having come out with this story, she needs to carry on and go do the interviews.

Kat had no choice about this. 19E would never have allowed her to speak to People about it if they did not WANT the sympathy factor. Ratings are low compared to Taylor/Yamin/Daughtry on the single Encore release, poor reviews on her Bocelli performance, utter disaster in most of her interviews with media because she is unpolished, shallow, not-too-bright and obviously not devoted to her art, only her image.

Anyone struggling with image problems to the extent that she was bulimic certainly would not be cured of it by putting MORE pressure on herself by appearing before millions of people for 24 weeks, now would she? It’s all about beauty and being a “star.” The sympathy was needed at a time when her single is being released. All about the money for AI and all about the stardom for Kat.

    Nothing’s changed.

I think that Katharine made a good choice with coming out about her struggle. She’s an inspiration to a lot of young girls , and coming out and telling us about her stuggle ; makes us have a new found love for her . She’s a great role model and her fans truely admire her .

Loner is way off…it amazing how the Kat bashers will not stop! FYI, the competition is over, go back to your den, Loner. Your pretentious fabricated untruths, form the south end of your anatomy is annoying! You don’t know what 19 is or is not doing, and you do not know Katharine McPhee or what she is going through!

The girl had the intestinal fortitude to talk candidly about an eating disorder that plagues millions of young people, by talking about it she has opened the door for recoverly possibilites for those afilcked with this disease. She said she over came her bulimia because of the program she when through in order to do AI. She thanked AI for saving her life.

Katharine has received rave reviews for her singing and was personally invited by Mr. Bocelli to sing with him, she has been at more events in the past month than your Hicks/Yamin/Daughtry combined. She will be featured on the cover of Teen People, which includes a huge photo shot, on stands next week. Truth be known, People broke the story as a prelude to their Teen People feature.
